Under the direction of the Director, the Patient Care Manager (PCM) is responsible on a 24-hour basis for the planning and comprehensive operations of a specific clinical unit or group of units ensuring compliance with hospital and nursing mission, goals, philosophy, policies and procedures. The Patient Care Manager utilizes the nursing process in the delivery of patient care and ensures quality care is provided through appropriate allocation of human resources, maintaining financial control of the unit, and serving as a liaison between administration and staff.

The individual demonstrates personal and professional responsibility; participates in creating an atmosphere of mutual trust, acceptance, recognition, and respect; and assumes responsibility for own professional development. This position serves as liaison to physicians, administration, and hospital staff.

Unrestricted AL or Multi State RN license

BCLS required. ACLS preferred.

Basic nursing education required for RN licensure, BSN preferred

Basic computer skills, good communication, time management, and critical thinking skills. Understands the nursing process and how to build and support a team.

Has a working knowledge of budget issues and fiscal management. Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Able to analyze situations, recognize problems, search out pertinent facts and reach sound conclusions.

Time management and critical thinking skills. Ability to form effective working relationships with employees, management, physicians and patients.

3 years of clinical experience including 1 year of nursing management / leadership experience, preferred.

Technician (MST) performs patient care, respiratory functions and unit functions appropriate to the position, and in compliance with hospital policies, protocols, and procedures. The MST is expected to anticipate the needs of the patient with the scope of their practice. The MST collects reports and documents patient data, transcribes orders and keeps the RN informed of pertinent changes in patient condition. Collects, reports and documents patient data accurately in a timely fashion according to nursing policy. Performs any assigned ancillary testing including but not limited to: blood draws and blood sugars. Completes all assigned tasks and communicates to the RN the patient responses to care provided in an accurately and timely manner. Assist with unit orientation and continuing education of students and employees as appropriate. Responds to all customers request in an appropriate and timely manner. Makes hourly patient rounds in conjunction with the nurse for fluids and toileting and keeps area clean, neat and maintains items within reach. Pays extra attention to patients in high fall risk categories. Updates information on white boards in patient rooms. Demonstrates responsibility for own competency, mandatories and annual performance evaluation by maintaining all personal data up-to-date. Meets educational requirements for new equipment, materials, procedures and technology. Prepares for the performance evaluation conference by submitting completed skills list and education attendance documents one month prior to due date. Understands and follows health standards related to risk management, safety and infection control. Occasionally enters areas where medications are stored (I.E. IV Fluids). Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency of computer systems including the Care Board. Adheres to and consistently supports professional standards and health care regulations that provide for and promote safety, quality patient care and patient satisfaction. Demonstrates responsibility for maintaining knowledge base of current unit and hospital communication through a variety of modalities including but not limited to communication books, posted notices, meeting minutes, Jackson Hospital intranet and Jackson Hospital email. High School diploma or equivalent. Have completed and passed Nursing fundamentals class and currently enrolled in nursing school. BLS. Strong verbal and customer focused relations skills required. Ability to interact with the public. Ability to form effective working relationships with hospital staff and patients. Ability to read, write and follow verbal and written instructions. Must be able to assist in lifting, turning, pushing, pulling and ambulating patients, and moving equipment involving a minimum of 50 pounds. Visual and hearing acuity. Frequent walking and standing.
