The Opportunity: Patient Care Associate - Endoscopy Unit Why This Role Is Important?
The Endoscopy Unit provides total gastrointesintal care. Ninety-percent of the patients are outpatients and the remaining ten percent are inpatients or transfers from another facility. There are approximately 20,000 cases performed in the unit annually.
PCA role works under the direction of the RN and closely with a multidisciplinary health care team in a procedural setting rotating through patient admission/ procedure prep area, procedure room, recovery area and helping with patient discharges. Duties include responding to patient requests in a timely manner, safeguarding patient confidentiality, monitoring patients and communicating in a respectful manner. This position requires the ability to handle a variety of patient care tasks such as monitoring vital signs and ADL's.
PCA supports procedure room turnover, scope cleaning and recovery, patient escort/liaison, and stocking supplies. Endoscope scope processing is part of the PCA role in the Endo unit contributing to the overall infection control program. Skills PCA assists patients with daily living needs, monitoring & reading vital signs, drawing blood, and obtaining EKGs.

Current CNA certificate for Massachusetts and previous experience, preferably in an acute setting. • Effective customer service orientation and the ability to interact with diverse groups of patients, staff and providers. • Demonstrated ability to solve basic patient and practice problems using a combination of strong interpersonal and communications skills and attention to detail and superior organizational skills. • Ability to lift and transport patients using the appropriate physical technique in a safe manner for the patient and self.
