Job Summary: The role of the Patient Care Assistant (PCA) is to assist with care to the patient under the direction of the RN, ensuring a safe, comfortable, and healing environment.

It is expected that the PCA will act as a member of the health care team to ensure exceptional guest services, communicate patient concerns and observations, and ensure the patient's right to privacy and dignity. The PCA will demonstrate ethical and legal behaviors within their identified scope of practice. Duties will be performed as assigned by the Primary Care Nurse, Charge Nurse, Supervisor or Director.

Skills:

Speaks and reads English at a level that is sufficient to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position. Interpersonal skills to effectively work with peers and patients. Exemplary customer service skills in person, answering telephones and call lights.

Understands basic documentation via EMR.

Ability to use equipment appropriate for role and patient care. Basic personal computer skills (i.e. MS Windows, MS Office, internet, timekeeping, e-mail). Required Education and Experience:

Eligibility to obtain licensure (or proof of training) for Certified Nurse Assistant Certification in the State of California. Or proof of satisfactory completion of Fundamentals of Nursing for RN or LVN. Or a minimum of 6 months experienced as a Certified Nurse Assistant in area of specialty or an appropriate equivalent preferred.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration: CNA--Certified Nursing Assistant preferred, Current BLS for Health Care Providers (American Heart Association) required.

Provides and documents care to patients under the direction of the RN, ensuring a safe, comfortable, and confidential environment. Completes order/data entry into the electronic medical record (EMR) as applicable. Records and calculates all necessary parameters (i.e. patient intake/output, vital signs); interprets EKG tracings for diagnostic purposes; monitor and integrate cardiac rhythms as appropriate. Acts as a member of the health care team at all times to ensure appropriate resources to all internal/external customers; maintain secure and trusting environment, ensuring the customer's right to privacy and dignity. Provides safe, cost effective, competent, age and population specific, culturally sensitive, direct, basic patient care throughout hospitalization and in preparation for discharge according to established hospital and professional standards, and is responsible and accountable for this care. Performs other duties as needed. Job Specifications: Knowledge and Skills: Documented, current clinical competence in accordance with written, hospital-wide patient care programs, policies and procedures. Be able to answers telephones, data entry, proofread, and retrieval via EMR. Diagnostic equipment for telemetry monitoring and cardiac rhythm interpretation. Personal computer and computer software skills (i.e. MS Windows, Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, internet, timekeeping, e-mail). Required Education and Experience: High school graduate or equivalent required. Eligibility to obtain licensure (or proof of training) for Certified Nurse Assistant Certification in the State of California, or proof of satisfactory completion of Fundamentals of Nursing for RN or LVN. Minimum of 6 months experience as a Certified Nurse Assistant in area of specialty or an appropriate equivalent or minimum of six months experience as Nursing Unit Secretary in related field required. Six months experience as Telemetry Tech in related field preferred. Successful completion of a basic dysrhythmia and recognition course completed within 6 months of employment. Successful completion of LLUMC-Murrieta EKG competency test within 6 months of employment. Licensure, Certification, or Registration: CNA--Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.
