Purpose Statement / Position Summary

The Patient Care Assistant II is an unlicensed caregiver working under the direction of the Physician/Registered Nurse. This position is responsible for supporting the Emergency Services unit environment to maintain smooth, effective communication between healthcare practitioners, departments, patients, and visitors.

The Patient Care Assistant II position is accountable for the accurate maintenance of the patient medical record, including computer order entry. This role is accountable for patient admission, transfer, and discharge flow processes. In addition, this role is accountable for providing the most basic of patient care including data collection, personal hygiene, vital sign measurement and assistance with activities of daily living such as ambulating, toileting and feeding.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

2.Demonstrates knowledge of the clinical information system
3.Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights. Maintains confidentiality of all medical, financial and other sensitive material in printed, electronic or verbal form, which may jeopardize the privacy of patients and or employees.
4.Demonstrates the ability to use good customer service skills by managing and acknowledging patient-family-significant other expectations.
5.Contributes to an effective and safe working environment.
6.Demonstrates tact, sensitivity and discretion.
7.Demonstrates the ability to integrate knowledge of job specific competencies.
8.Ability to be at work and be on time
9.Ability to follow company policies, procedures and directives
10. Ability to interact in a positive and constructive manner
11. Ability to prioritize and multitask

Experience

One year acute care experience as unit secretary/nursing assistant or nursing student who has completed the first semester of nursing school preferred.

Computer, internet, order entry and word processing experience preferred.

Proficient in medical terminology

Education

High School Diploma or equivalency

Current American Heart Association Basic Cardiac Life Support Card
