Job Summary

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Patient Care Associate performs delegated functions as a member of a patient care team to provide a variety of services. These activities contribute to meeting the health care, safety and comfort needs of patients, and are performed in accordance with all existing regulatory and hospital standards, policies and procedures. Reports to Unit Manager.

Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent

Effective communication skills

Demonstrated ability to read, write and speak English, and perform basic Mathematics

CPR validation within 3 months of hire

Physical effort as specified by Position Physical Requirements and Occupational Exposure form

Specific certification as designated by work area may be required.

PREFERRED:

Certification as nursing assistant (CNA)

Matriculation in a nursing program

Completion of education in a related health field (i.e. medical assistant program, EMT certification, etc.)

Previous patient care experience; specific experience as designated by work area maybe required

Demonstrated competencies in a related field at Hartford Hospital.

Bliss 7 ICU is a newly renovated 12-bed Medical Intensive Care Unit that provides care to patients with a wide range of complex, highly acute medical issues. These issues include but are not limited to; respiratory failure, gastrointestinal bleeding, liver injury/failure, kidney injury/failure, sepsis, and drug and alcohol withdrawal. Under the supervision of a Critical Care Pulmonologist, the unit is staffed 24 hours-a-day with a team of Physician Assistants, Advanced Practice Registered Nurses, Registered Nurses, and medical house staff physicians consisting of interns and residents. Job Summary Under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Unit Manager, the Patient Administrative Associate performs delegated functions as a member of a patient care team by providing administrative support and communicating with members of the health care team, patients and families. This role contributes to the successful operation of the work area and functions in accordance with all existing regulatory and hospital standards, policies and procedures. Reports to Manager, Patient Unit. Qualifications * High school graduate or equivalent required. * Minimum of one year hospital based or physician office work experience preferred. * Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. * Basic computer skills required. * CPR validation may be required within three months of hire depending upon work area specific requirement. * Physical effort as required by Position Physical Requirements and Occupational Exposures Form. * Effective communication and interpersonal skills required.
