This person serves as the Clinic's representative to medical patients in matters involving patient accounts. Administers corporate credit policy, manages patient accounts receivable, assists with processing for special programs serves as the back up to other departments as needed or requested by supervisor. Assists patients/clients with the medical enrollment application process and serves as a liaison between the patient/client and the state Medicaid office.

Qualifications

  • Education: Associate Degree/Certificate (appropriate to the position) from an accredited technical school or High School Diploma or GED with equivalent experience.

  • Experience: 1-2 years-billing credit experience in a medical setting preferred. Experience in special programs such as State managed care plans preferred.

  • Licenses/Certificates/Registration: Must be able to pass state and federal/or other required certification exam within 30 days of hire.

  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required: Knowledge of medical terminology or wiliness to learn; have the ability to work under stressful conditions; exercise independent judgment and discretion; have a pleasant, courteous telephone manner; ability to handle irritated patients; ability to prioritize and handle a variety of tasks simultaneously; ability to work with frequent interruptions; knowledge of 10-key; experience working in a variety of computer programs; and knowledge of medical billing insurance helpful.

Summary: The SSVF SOAR Benefits Specialist will report to the General Manager, work with participants in the SSVF and HEN (Housing and Essential Needs) programs, and must be able to work in the community and meet homeless participants where they are, including in the woods, under bridges, and in abandoned houses. Applicants will be required to become SOAR Certified within 30 days of hire. Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in human services field; at least 2 years of experience working directly with individuals experiencing homelessness who have mental illness and/or are dually diagnosed. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: * Monitor SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration) and Washington State SOAR for revisions and updates. Recommend changes to Goodwill SOAR Policies and Procedures to the General Manager within 30 days of policy change(s). * Refer all external communications from partner agencies and SOAR providers to the General Manager. Provide monthly updates and reports to the General Manager on internal SOAR activities to include the provision of technical assistance to Program/Case Managers. * Work with referral sources and community partners to identify SSVF or HEN candidates through team meetings, outreaches, and referrals. * Initiate paperwork with participants as referred to program by filing initial documentation of representation with SSA office. * Gather medical records and other information to complete SSI/SSDI applications. * Write SOAR Medical Summary Reports for participant applications. * Accompany participants to appointments at the Social Security Administration. * Coordinate visits to medical doctors, psychiatrists, and other specialists to obtain evidence for SOAR applications. * Coordinate case management services with partners and SSVF/HEN team to help with providing case management services to participants when needed. * Use sound mental reasoning, sound judgment, and have ability to respond calmly and effectively in a crisis-situation while respecting and valuing all clients, regardless of circumstances, behavior, or need. * Show a strong commitment to maintain confidentiality in all assignments as directed, maintaining appropriate boundaries with clients and landlords. * Complete and maintain required handwritten and computer-based records, files, correspondence, and statistics in a timely, thorough, accurate, and legible manner. * Compile, prepare, and maintain and provide narrative reports and presentations as required. * May be required to work a variety of shift. * Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet frequent deadlines. * Experience engaging with a diverse population and ability to respond appropriately to crisis situation. * Familiarity with Social Security Administration's Blue Book listings. * Good writing skills and the ability to analyze extensive data and create written reports with accuracy and brevity. * Cursory knowledge of medical and psychiatric terminology and ability to write using same. * Ability to maintain professional boundaries and engagement skills with a challenging population and in non-traditional work conditions. * Experience with providing outreach and successful engagement to a diverse population, includes working with clients, developing trust, and conducting interviews in non-traditional settings and unstructured environments. * Frequent travel by foot, car, or other means appropriate to making contact with population. * Perform all responsibilities in service to Goodwill's mission, vison, and values, and to assist participants in ways that aspire to programmatic and administrative excellence. * Other duties as assigned.
