Overview of Position

The Patient Benefit Advocate/Healthcare Representative will assist patients in the Emergecny Department at Halifax Health in Daytona Beach, FL.

What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?

  • Meet with and interview each patient who presents to the facility Emergency Department (ED) area due to injuries related to accidents associated with motor vehicles, general liability and/or worker's compensation, during facility's designated staffing hours.

  • Educate each patient on the different Auto Insurance coverage(s) available, Coordination of Benefits (COB) process related to accident claims, and how no-fault coverage can assist with their medical bills.

  • Engage each patient in the Auto Insurance claims initiation process to ensure claims are processed in a timely manner

  • Review facility's report to identify patients who presented to the facility outside Change Healthcare's designated staffing hours or registered outside the Emergency Department (ED) area

  • Create a patient file in the system for each patient visit and maintain the file for accuracy.

  • Investigate and confirm any medical coverages related to auto, general liability, and/or worker compensation insurance available to the patient and updating the patient file in the system

  • Communicate per Change Healthcare protocol with responsible insurance carriers and attorney offices to secure payment on behalf of the facility and update patient file accordingly.

  • Update patient accounts in any designated facility system(s), in accordance with the agreed upon business plan

  • Process work daily for all Patient Counselor groups to ensure a consistent workflow for every patient file and result in timely reimbursement to the facility.

  • Communicate any issues/concerns involving patient files or personnel to your direct supervisor.

  • Become patient advocate to assist patient through accident claims process.

  • Ability to work within a diverse team environment and offer ongoing support to team members.

  • Initiating an accident claim and providing details to auto and workers compensation carriers.

What are the requirements needed for this position?

  • 1-3 years of relevant hospital and healthcare experience.

  • High school diploma and/or GED required.

  • Possible language skills, as required by geographic location.

  • Proficient with computer skills and tablet devices including Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint).

  • Ability to travel to other locations.

  • Professional & polished demeanor.

  • Strong work ethics and confidentiality.

  • Time management skills and attention to detail.

What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?

  • Knowledge of federal and state programs that will benefit coverage for the client.

  • Demonstrated experience working with people of various educational and socioeconomic background preferred.

  • Associates and/or Bachelors degree is preferred.

What are the working conditions and physical requirements of this job?

  • Ability to work in client location
  • Halifax Health in Daytona Beach, FL.
  • Position requires heavy walking with extended periods of sitting and standing.

  • Flexibility is required - hospital schedule set in advance at 40 hours per week however the schedule will change.

  • Hours will fall between 7am and 11pm EST weekdays and weekends.

  • Some holiday coverage is required.

  • Some travel between client locations

  • Employees in roles that require travel will need to be able to qualify for a company credit card or be able to use their own personal credit card for travel expenses and submit for reimbursement.
