The Clinical Access Department at the University of Miami has several exciting Patient Benefits Advisor 2 opportunities.

The Patient Benefits Advisor 2 ensures that patients have adequate insurance coverage for services received and advises patients when there are any gaps in coverage so that appropriate payment arrangements can be made.

This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities as necessary.

  • Greets every individual on the phone or in person with a smile and a warm, professional greeting.

  • Coordinates with appropriate scheduling department to schedule patient appointments when prior authorizations have not been obtained or have been denied.

  • Assists departments with inquiries into the status of accounts, pre-certification, eligibility, financial estimates and department policies and procedures.

  • Ensures all patient information is secure and all paperwork disposed of appropriately to preserve confidentiality.

  • Ensures that prior authorizations are obtained and fully documented prior to the receipt of services.

  • Contacts physician offices to obtain missing patient information.

  • Utilizes patient estimate tools and insurance company contacts to obtain accurate out-of-pocket estimates, documents these estimates, and generates estimate letters.

  • Updates patient accounts as necessary with correct insurance information.

  • Submits insurance referral documentation in a timely fashion.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent

Experience:

Minimum 2 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Strong customer service skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Highly detail oriented and organized

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Knowledge of medical terminology

The Patient Experience Advisor 3 serves a critical role to UHealth and its facilities, by independently providing detailed attention, investigation, negotiation, mediation, documentation and resolution of patient complaints and grievances. The incumbent takes the lead by addressing issues identified by patients and their families, and manages expedited responses and solutions to their concerns. The Patient Experience Advisor 3 interprets policies and rights to patients and their families and guests, and provides support to practitioners and staff during the recovery from service breakdowns to maintain regulatory compliance. An employee in this position assumes responsibility for managing appointments, ensures care is facilitated for high profile patients, and directly influences patient experience improvement efforts. CORE JOB FUNCTIONS * Promote UHealth at Fisher Island membership to residents and guests requesting information via networking, non-member clinic visits and ensuring patient satisfaction. * Attend UHealth at Fisher Island events and island networking events as requested by practice manager/ physicians. * Assist in monitoring and assigning UHealth at Fisher Island patient identifier flags for members in Epic. * Maintain up-to-date clinic contact list with contacts from various departments at the University. * After-hour ER concierge services when necessary and requested by on-call physician or NP. * Accurately communicate with billing office regarding patients' financial status and act as patient advocate for any patient billing concerns. * Conduct quarterly service calls to all UHealth at Fisher Island members, track responses and data, and follow-up on any requests pertaining to orders, appointments, information etc. * Responds to, investigates, and resolves patient and visitor concerns, complaints, and grievances. * Manages the grievances, complaints, and compliments in the Patient Complaint reporting system, documents service recovery steps and resolution, and closes tickets. * Identifies potential liability cases and, after initial investigation, prepares case summaries for the Office of Risk Management and the University of Miami General Counsel. * Oversees the communication of patient and visitor rights and responsibilities to patients and their families, and staff, and interacts effectively with peers, practitioners, and administrators. Interprets patient rights and HIPAA Regulations in accordance with state and federal laws, and monitors institutional compliance. * Executes and composes letters and other written communications professionally and with grammatical accuracy. * Achieves accurate data collection, and completes weekly and monthly statistical reports to maintain regulatory compliance. * Facilitates communication between patients, practitioners, administrative staff, and all members of the clinical care team. * Leads data collection for regulatory compliance reports, prepares analyses, and presents trends to department, clinical, and administrative leaders. * Formulates improvement initiatives to positively impact patient satisfaction and UHealth experience. * Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
