Corewell Health Taylor Hospital is a 148-bed, Magnet-designated hospital that is a recognized health care leader in the metro Detroit area. Proudly serving Taylor and surrounding communities since 1977, it offers specialty services that include 24-hour emergency care, wound care and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, a surgical pavilion, a pain management clinic, orthopedic surgery, an inpatient rehabilitation facility and full-service radiology, including advanced CT with cardiac scoring, fixed MRI including pacemaker, cinema vision and ultrasound (MSK and elastography).

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of patients, specimens, and medication, throughout the hospital as assigned.

Essential Duties:

  • Transport patients safely, timely, and efficiently. This may include assisting with lifting the patients on and off beds and moving patients throughout the hospital.

  • Requires the ability to recognize if the patient is experiencing stress or other issues during transport and immediately seeks assistance.

  • Monitors O2, IV's, catheters, etc. and alert appropriate personal with problems 100% of the time.

  • Informs supervisor/dispatcher of all delays within 10 minutes.

  • Maintains transport equipment in a clean, safe, and orderly manner. Returns all equipment to the appropriate location.

  • Maintains and completes all departmental records, completes proper handoff before removing patient from dept/unit. Check all patients ID bands and complete two patient identifiers prior to transportation.

  • Adheres to all hospital policies and procedures.

  • Understands and demonstrate safe lifting and transport techniques.

  • Knows and practices universal precautions as appropriate.

  • Requires demonstrated communication skills to interact with courtesy, tact, empathy, and professionalism in daily interactions with patient, their families, clinical licensed and non-licensed staff, physicians, and management.

  • Ability to understand and follow direction, ability to comply with HIPAA confidentiality requirements.

  • May be responsible for transporting specimens, oxygen, stretchers, and other items as assigned.

  • Actively participates in safety initiatives and risk mitigating measures where appropriate and completes all position and unit safety related competencies and requirements on a timely basis.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education / Training:

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association or Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross within 30 days.

  • Demonstrated communication skills to interact with courtesy, tact, empathy, and professionalism in daily interaction with patients, their families, clinical licensed and non-licensed staff, physicians, and management.

Preferred

  • Prior transport experience
