GENERAL SUMMARY: Facilitates patient flow by greeting patients and preparing them for their examination, acting as a chaperone, uploading images and performing other non-technologist functions when appropriate. Enters data into hospital information system, transports films within the hospital and transports patients, if necessary.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.

  • Medical setting experience desired.

  • General knowledge of Radiology exams and/or anatomy desired.

VIEW JOBS 12/17/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-03-17T00:00 <strong><u>BASIC FUNCTION</u></strong><strong>:</strong><br />  <br /> Under the direction of the Transportation Supervisor, the incumbent is to consistently demonstrate an ability to perform a variety of transportation duties and responsibilities in support of the patient centered care program.  Responsibilities include performing patient transports, transfers, lifts and repositions using the appropriate patient lifting equipment and safe patient handling policies and procedures.<br />  <br /> <strong><u>DIMENSIONS</u></strong>:<br />  <br /> Indeterminate.<br /> <br /> <br /> <strong><u>NATURE AND SCOPE</u></strong><strong>:</strong><br />  <br /> Interacts internally with patients, nurses, visitors, physicians and other healthcare providers.<br /> <br /> <br /> <strong><u>PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:</u></strong><br />  <br /> Achieve appropriate Hospital performance and productivity standards as established.<br />  <br /> Transports patients to and from various diagnostics and therapeutic areas in the Main Hospital.<br />  <br /> Incumbent will be required to fulfill responsibilities as assigned and/or float basis in response to inpatient’ needs across all departments of the Hospital.<br />  <br /> Picks up specimen/labs from units and delivers to labs and blood bank. Picks up blood from blood bank and deliver to units.<br />  <br /> Perform other duties that further the customer service needs of the unit, such as answering ASCOM phones and removing empty beds and stretchers from unit hallways upon request.<br />  <br /> Ascertains patient name, destination, mode of travel, time and other data, following written or verbal instructions.<br />  <br /> Assists the unit nursing staff in transferring patients in and out of bed onto wheelchairs and stretchers and lifting patients with Hoyer lift as well as patient care on units.<br />  <br /> Respond to emergent and urgent patient and operational issues.<br />  <br /> Prepares, inspects and cleans transportation equipment prior to transporting patients.<br /> <br /> Reports incidents and any unsafe equipment to the Transportation Supervisor for maintenance and repair.<br /> <br /> Transports deceased patients to the morgue.<br />  <br /> Achieves appropriate Hospital performance and productivity standards as established.<br />  <br /> <strong><u>ORGANIZATIONAL EXPECTATIONS:</u></strong><br /> Promotes adherence to the Health Sciences Compliance Program, the Howard University Code of Ethics and the Health Sciences Standards of Conduct.<br />  <br /> Attends annual and periodic mandatory Compliance Program training including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy training and adheres to the requirements.<br />  <br /> Participates in activities that promote adherence to federal healthcare program requirements.<br />  <br /> Obtains necessary certifications as required by regulatory agencies.<br />  <br /> Maintains confidentiality of patients, families, and staff.<br />  <br /> Assumes other duties and responsibilities that are related and appropriate to the position and area.
