Responsible for pre-registration, verifying insurance coverage, obtaining insurance authorizations, coordinating specific patient payment arrangements, and collecting deductibles and co-insurance following departmental and hospital policies and procedures; third party billing procedures, and regulatory agency requirements.
Pre-registers patients and verifies insurance information with all payors. Determines benefits, deductibles, co-payments, patient out-of-pocket financial responsibilities and other policy requirements.
Obtains necessary pre-certification information from physician offices.
Instructs patients concerning financial obligations and assists with payment arrangements. Obtains co-pay and deductible information to determine any patient self-pay responsibility.
Collects patient payments following departmental guidelines.
Provides general clerical support such as answering the phone, data entry, and assembling, maintaining, and distributing various information related to the work.
Maintains files, logs, schedules, and other documentation related to the work.
Corrects and reconciles patient information on accounts that require adjustments.
Responsible for daily unverified report and assuring all accounts are verified prior to patient's scheduled procedure.
Must maintain a minimum of a 95% accuracy rate.
Performs other related responsibilities as necessary.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Post high school courses in insurance billing and medical terminology, two years of recent healthcare billing experience or 2 years of recent Patient Access experience required.
Experience with automated billing systems and on-line verification systems.
