Position Summary:
The Patient Access Specialist in Student Health registers patients, schedules patient appointments, checks patients in/out, maintains provider templates, and processes medical records or release of information requests.
The Student Health Team is anticipating hiring two candidates for this position.
Specific Job Duties & Tasks:
Assist patients/guests/staff with general inquiries.
Answer incoming calls and place outbound calls.
Anticipate the needs of the patient and serve as a patient advocate or intermediary between nursing, front line staff, providers, and other stakeholders concerning scheduling and medical needs.
Route patient requests or other issues outside of the scope appropriately; assist with resolution.
Ensure the correct visit types, provider, date, length of visit, and time are utilized when scheduling appointments.
Schedule into the appropriate timeframe that is in line with what is requested for the plan of care based on the desired appointment date.
Assist with training of new staff.
Collect required patient documents and signatures.
Refer patients and others appropriately for assistance with financial questions.

We provide care to registered UI students, just like you would receive from your hometown healthcare provider, but we are experts in the care of college students!
We are staffed with MDs who are board-certified in family medicine, gynecology, and psychiatry. We also have certified physician assistants on staff.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Working experience (typically 6 months or more) in an administrative office role.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to be self-directed and demonstrate excellent judgment in prioritizing multiple projects and assignments.
Experience with creating and maintaining a welcoming and respectful environment.
Proficiency in computer spreadsheet and database applications.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience with hospital operations and/or Ambulatory Clinic operations.
Experience with electronic medical record software, preferably the EPIC system.
Experience with patient scheduling in an outpatient clinic setting.
