Position Purpose: This position is responsible to perform all registration, scheduling, order entry and reception functions and will float to various sites within the Medical Group or hospital as dictated by the daily need for coverage.

This position expedites and provides healthcare access through the accurate gathering of demographic, sponsorship or guardian data, insurance, clinical, financial, and statistical information from a variety of sources, i.e. patients, patient's families, physicians, physician office staff, county and/or governmental agencies, CMS, FMS, etc.

This position ensures reimbursement for services rendered through verification of insurance eligibility/benefits, obtaining insurance authorization within required time frame, identification and collection of patient financial obligation and accurate charge order entry. Serves the patient and family in such a manner as to make the admission process as comfortable and pleasant as possible.

Nature and Scope: The incumbent uses professionalism and diplomacy with interacting with patients of all ages, their families, physicians, physician office staff and other health care providers in the accurate collecting of demographic, clinical, and financial information in person or via telephone interviews.

Takes an active role in decreasing accounts receivables by following established guidelines, regulations, policies and procedures during the registration process in accurately:

  • Obtaining and accurately entering demographic, clinical, financial information into the computer system.

  • Explaining and obtaining signatures on admission, clinical and financial forms

  • Collecting accident information

  • Identifying all insurance payer sources

  • Identifying payer order sequence

  • Verifying insurance eligibility

  • Obtaining insurance notification

  • Charge order entry processing

  • Determining estimated cost for services being rendered

  • Identifying and collecting patient financial obligation amounts, i.e. co-payments, co-insurance, deductibles, etc.

  • Documenting all information collected timely and in accordance with department requirements.

Explores the financial need of the patient and when appropriate refers the customer to the appropriate federal, state, or county assistance agencies.

The incumbent is responsible for scheduling, order entry and reception functions and assists in completion of departmental tasks.

The incumbent will be expected to float to all of the clinics within the Medical Group or hospital, including rural sites.

This position has the authority to solve problems following established company guidelines. Decisions that must be referred to a supervisor are matters that involve problems which can develop negatively towards the company, time off requests, sick time, work schedules, interoffice problems, etc.

Adopts a philosophy consistent with the Renown Health Values and models them. Ability to be diplomatic and effectively communicate during stressful situations.

Skills to anticipate customer needs, deal with the unexpected, establish priorities, investigate and adjust performance style when necessary. This includes the ability to deal with the sight of various injuries, procedures and the stress associated with such an environment. Working knowledge of health care insurance.

The ability to accurately document subscriber information, determine payer order sequence and obtain notification as required by payer for services being rendered. Must be able to ensure all matters related to patient information are kept secured, meeting confidentiality compliance standards set by The Joint Commission and HIPAA. Knowledge of governmental programs billing requirements.

Ability to identify the patient's financial obligation, i.e. deductible, co-payment, co-insurance, etc. and follow standard operating procedures regarding point of service collections. Skills to perform order entry. Above average computer application skills.

Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Scheduling skills adaptable to a fast pace environment with heavy physician/physician office staff interaction. Ability to be flexible and adapt to different clinic settings within the Medical Group or hospital.

This includes the ability to prioritize/multitask in a fast paced environment. Trains and performs on-boarding for newly hired employees. [AG1]

Minimum Qualifications:

Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. High School Diploma or GED preferred Experience: Requires one year of admitting, medical claims processing, professional office experience and/or customer service experience with financial interaction.

Experience with Windows Operating systems, EPIC, SMS Invision, Internet and SMS IMS Document Imaging is preferred. License(s): None Certification(s): Renown Health Patient Access PAR I Certification required[AG2] . Active CHAA Certification preferred. Computer / Typing: Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.

VIEW JOBS 4/12/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-07-11T00:00 Position Purpose The Patient Access Representative Senior's primary role includes performing duties included in the Patient Access Representative job description and supporting the work of Patient Access Departments. Among other duties, this individual performs Financial Specialist functions, implements necessary admission arrangements, provides department education, performs registration audits, and creates standard work as designated by Patient Access Leaders. This role is also responsible for coordinating representatives' efforts to resolve complex accounts and ensuring representatives' interactions with patients are consistent and compassionate during registration and billing activities. The Patient Access Representative Senior helps to monitor all registration and collection activities for the hospital and its affiliates and serves as a day-to-day resource for representatives. This role communicates timely and accurately to all ancillary providers and internal customers, as needed for account resolution. Provides support to Patient Access staff relative to the utilization review processes, payer compliance, notification processes and authorizations. The Senior Patient Access Representative Serves as an agent of the Business Office Department, educating co-workers and other hospital personnel on the referral and authorization processes, financial assistance programs, eligibility status and other financial community resources. Ensures complete documentation related to processes of complete and accurate payer notification and authorization as needed for the applicable admission, procedure, surgery or other medical service rendered. Notifies the team of any benefit notices that affect billing procedures. Ensures system documentation reflects correct billing requirements. Works with the Business Office and third-party payers to ensure timely recovery of outstanding accounts receivable. Provides education for identification of all payer sources, verification of insurance eligibility/benefits, obtaining authorization for admission. Nature and Scope This position is responsible to conduct a comprehensive registration with minimal assistance, in person or by phone. This includes identifying all potential payer sources, including federal, state and county assistance programs, which will ensure reimbursement for the services being rendered. Whenever possible, such screening will be done prior to admission. The incumbent is responsible to ensure this process is expeditious, non-imposing and insurance authorizations completed meeting payer requirements. This position is accountable for timely coordination and accurate relay of information pertaining to patient admissions and insurance authorizations and potential denials by payers. This position takes initiative to overcome roadblocks and prioritize workload, ensuring that accounts are financially secured and analyzed to ensure that all barriers / avoidable days are identified and communicated to the appropriate personnel. The incumbent must use diplomacy in communicating effectively to patients, guardians, family members, physicians and co-workers. In addition, the incumbent is responsible to coordinate with the interdisciplinary teams to ensure a seamless admission and discharge process. The incumbent will maintain all necessary activity logs / required documentation with regard to insurance authorizations and potential or actual denials as directed by their immediate supervisor. Produces education for Patient Access personnel to improve on financial collection techniques. * Participates in and/or assists with quality management processes. * Working with Patient Access Leadership on department projects. * Acts as a resource for day-to-day operations questions. * Serves as customer service resource for walk-in patients in hospital lobby/patient registration area. * Maintains a thorough understanding of federal and state regulations, payer requirements, and third party financial assistance programs. * Holds sufficient understanding of insurance protocols for referrals, co-payments, deductibles, allowances, etc., and analyzes information received to determine patients' out-of-pocket liabilities. * Trains and performs on-boarding for newly hired employees. * Performs audits to ensure registration practices are compliant with government payer regulations through registration audits, authorization information is obtained for services from payers (collect referrals and authorization numbers and document user comment fields as appropriate). * Ensures Patient Access personnel explain and obtain each patient's signature on consent forms as needed. Makes copies of insurance cards and patient identification. * Collects and confirms complete patient demographic information-including employer, financial information, emergency contact, insurance, subscriber ID, etc.-and case-specific information, such as referring physician/primary care provider and diagnosis/chief complaint. * Collects out-of-pocket liabilities from patients upfront and applies, adjusts, and reconciles daily point of-service cash reports. * Prepares and reconciles cash deposits as necessary. * Completes daily and weekly volume and productivity management reporting. The position is required to meet goals and productivity standards set by management. This includes performing quality assurance controls to ensure the final product produces a clean claim and meeting collection goals. This position also performs other duties as assigned by their direct and indirect supervisor / manager / director.
