Position Overview:

Interviews patients or their representatives , and enters accurate information onto appropriate forms and into the computer system. Collects appropriate co-payments, and obtains signatures and escorts patients to destination if required.

Job Description:

Interviews and inputs demographics on patients registering for services including registrations by phone (pre-registration). Maintains confidentiality of patient information and knowledge of "Consent Manual." Obtains copies of insurance cards, and patient or representative signature on appropriate forms. Maintains awareness of contract requirements for authorizations in an outpatient setting, and verifies proper insurance authorizations have been obtained by patient at time of registration. Verifies eligibility on designated accounts and notifies primary care physicians as deemed by insurance and/or procedures.

Orders tests for ancillary departments via computer accurately.

Escorts or directs patients to assigned room or ancillary department, or arranges to have patient escorted.

Receives and records reservations for incoming patients; makes telephone calls to confirm patient appointment/orders.

Provides brochures to patients which explain Medical Center regulations regarding Advance Directive, patient rights and other information, and policy on patient valuables. Accepts and stores patient valuables in safe.

Answers department telephone by the 3rd ring and with courtesy. Answers questions from physicians and visitors regarding patient location, and provides directions and map of facility.

Collects deposits or payments from patients and prepares receipts.

Monitors waiti ng time, and provides Coordinator with recommendations for improvement.

Applies the principles of "continuous quality im provement" which includes working cooperatively with colleagues and projecting a service orientation toward al l.

Works in a team environment continually enhancing requ ired skills through scheduled training sessions or on own. Perform s other duties as may be assigned.

EDUCATION

Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma.

HS Diploma or equivalent education/experience

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AS TYPICALLY ACQUIRED IN:

Minimum six months recent clerical experience including contact with the public .

Hospital admitting/registration experience preferred.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Computer keyboard knowledge required .

Able to perform under pressure while maintaining a positive attitude in a fast paced office.

Must be a team player and able to promote friendly, professional and caring relationships with patients, visitors and doctors utilizing the services of the hospital. Ability to type 40 words per minute preferred (applicants will be required to complete a typing assessment skills test.)

Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, and employees .

Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers , common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Pay Range is $30.38 to $35.78 / hour

The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled.

Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate's experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs.
