Under the direction of the Supervisor of Patient Access, registers patients in the Emergency Department.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: ensuring a customer friendly environment between Saint Mary's Hospital and patients, visitors, and physicians upon initial contact; process registration functions for patients entering the health care organization through the emergency department; secures all information necessary for internal operations; introduces patients to the environment, explains policies, secures signatures and all other key information needed to complete billing and collection functions; collects or arranges for co-insurance and/or other deposit payment amounts; refers self-pay patients to financial counselors; answers patient questions.
High diploma or equivalent required.
Associates degree in business, health care administration or other similar field preferred.
Strong customer service and excellent verbal, spelling and communication skills required.
Other requirements include knowledge of PC operations in a Windows environment, strong keyboarding skills, basic medical terminology, knowledge of ICD 9/10 codes, and strong knowledge of third party payer requirements for billing and precertification.
Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
