Under the direction of the Supervisor of Patient Access, registers patients in the Emergency Department.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: ensuring a customer friendly environment between Saint Mary's Hospital and patients, visitors, and physicians upon initial contact; process registration functions for patients entering the health care organization through the emergency department; secures all information necessary for internal operations; introduces patients to the environment, explains policies, secures signatures and all other key information needed to complete billing and collection functions; collects or arranges for co-insurance and/or other deposit payment amounts; refers self-pay patients to financial counselors; answers patient questions.
High diploma or equivalent required.
Associates degree in business, health care administration or other similar field preferred.
Strong customer service and excellent verbal, spelling and communication skills required.
Other requirements include knowledge of PC operations in a Windows environment, strong keyboarding skills, basic medical terminology, knowledge of ICD 9/10 codes, and strong knowledge of third party payer requirements for billing and precertification.
Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

VIEW JOBS 10/7/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-01-05T00:00 * General Statement of Duties: To organize and implement the quality and education program for the Patient Access Department, including the following functional areas of: Decentralized Registration, Surgery, Emergency Department, Financial Counseling, and the Pre-registration staff. To be responsible for the initial education and training of all staff who have access to the EPIC Registration software. Ensure all reports and edits assigned to Patient Access are reviewed and corrected in timely manner. Perform other duties as assigned. Illustrative Examples of Work a. Facilitate customer friendly patient access to all hospital services. b. Develop strategies (and resulting programs) to measure quality key performance indicators for Patient Access functional areas and set goals. Measure the department's actual performance to goals. Implement quality assurance strategies for Patient Access that is consistent with the Hospital's mission, vision, goals and objectives. Communicates results to Director of Patient Access. c. Coordinate a quality assurance program for new and existing employees. Work in collaboration with the department Manager(s) of Patient Access and Director of Patient Access. d. Responsible to ensure reports, edits, and denial work queues for Patient Access areas are corrected and completed in timely bases. This includes root cause analysis to determine issues to be corrected with training. e. Monitor and enhance the functions within the information system to promote quality output for Patient Access functions. f. Coordinates with the Director of Patient Access, quarterly educational sessions to keep Patient Access staff current on access issues and improve results of the staffs QA scores. g. Collaborates with the IT department on any changes that will affect the Cadence, Prelude/Grand Central, or ADT modules in EPIC. h. Acts as a resource to staff. i. Monitor compliance with billing regulations as they relate to the Patient Access department areas of responsibility (providing required information to generate clean claims). a. Represents Patient Access department at meetings related to PFS. b. Practices the Hospital's Values and Core Behaviors; Integrity, Caring, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence. c. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills, Credentials and Abilities * Excellent analytical, planning and presentation skills * Excellent written and verbal skills * Ability to effectively interact and communicate with members of the hospital and patient communities * Strong knowledge of Medicare regulations and secondary payer processes. * Knowledge of registration and scheduling software systems. * Ability to define new procedures to maximize efficiency and customer service * Ability to work well under pressure * Ability to influence change * Excellent team building skills * Excellent customer service skills * Required to travel more than 70% of the time to different Trinity Health of New England facilities. Minimum Acceptable Experience and Training * High school diploma required; Associate degree preferred * 3 to 5 years' experience, working in a healthcare environment, required * Understanding of Epic's Cadence, Prelude/Grand Central, or ADT required fields and workflows * Knowledge of insurance products and requirements * Familiarity with medical terminology * Excellent written and verbal communication skills Saint Mary's Hospital Waterbury CT
