PeaceHealth is seeking a Patient Access Rep Lead - Family Practice, Ketchikan for a 1.0 full time equivalent Non-Exempt position. This position will be working Day shift with shift durations of 8 Hours.

JOB SUMMARY

Assists in coordinating some or all of the following activities: scheduling; insurance verification and pre-certification; billing concerns; and co-pay collections. Acts as a clinical liaison with physician practices interacting with pre-visit services.

Responsible for coordinating the day-to-day functions for assigned area. Assists with ensuring that departmental goals are achieved, timelines met and service excellence provided in all aspects of work. Subject matter expert.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1.Assigns work; plans and manages priorities; provides technical assistance; oversees staff schedules; monitors quality of work; monitors team projects; mentors staff; provides constructive feedback; oversees staff training; ensures quality improvement; ensures compliance with policies; provides leadership feedback on staff performance, and assists with goal setting for the team.
2.Pre-registers patients with accurate patient demographic and financial data.
3.Verifies coverage and ensures all insurance requirements are met, as well as obtaining all prior authorization and/or referrals as appropriate prior to patient arrival.
4.Stays current with insurance requirements.
5.Serves as a resource for questions including compliance and complaints, and trouble-shooting patient billing and staff issues.
6.Assists with departmental coverage as needed.
7.Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

  • Minimum of one year of Patient Access Rep experience required.

  • Previous leadership experience preferred.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Medical Terminology and CPT/ICD coding required.

  • Knowledge of insurance process and regulations required.

OTHER SKILLS:

  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook preferred.

  • Must be able to manage conflict effectively and professionally.

  • Excellent time management skills, with an emphasis on meeting time sensitive deadlines.

  • Good customer service skills and good interpersonal skills.

REGION/LOCATION SPECIFIC NOTES

PHMG Communities Only:

  • Strong background in customer service and/or in a lead role may be considered in lieu of Patient Access Rep experience.

ALASKA - PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Work requires normal amounts of physical effort up to 33% of the time.

  • Ability to lift objects weighing 30 lbs. or less.

  • Work is performed under normal working conditions with adequate lighting and ventilation.

  • Duties require the ability to concentrate or pay close attention to detail for more than 66% of the work time.

In collaboration with the healthcare team, assists physicians/providers in the delivery of patient care working within the scope of practice for a Medical Assistant. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS * Assigns work; plans and manages priorities; provides technical assistance; oversees staff schedules; monitors quality of work; monitors team projects; mentors staff; provides constructive feedback to supervisor/manager on issues impacting clinic performance and caregiver effectiveness; oversees staff training; ensures quality improvement and participate in process improvement initiatives as requested; supports strategic initiatives as requested; provides leadership feedback on staff performance; and assists with goal setting for team. * Prepares patients for examination and treatment. Takes and records patient history and vital signs. * Prepares exam and treatment rooms; select, setup and maintain medical supplies and equipment for all examinations and procedures. * Gives injections, applies splints and dressings, and facilitates simple wound management under provider orders. * Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization. * May transport specimens. * May assist in scheduling patients for tests, initial and follow up appointments. * May maintain patient files, records, and other information including entry of data into electronic medical record. * May provide phone screening of patient to appropriate clinical staff and/or physician. * Collaborates with a variety of personnel and departments to ensure smooth clinic operations. * Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: * Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant or Medical Office Assistant program is required. An approved educational program/course of study that allows caregiver to sit for the MOA certification exam will be considered (e.g. Associate's degree in Allied Health). EXPERIENCE/TRAINING: * Minimum of two years of experience as a Medical Assistant, Medical Office Assistant or performing like type work is required. * Experience in leading and training preferred. LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: * Current Medical Assistant National certification is required at date of hire. The following are certifications that meet this requirement: * Certified Medical Assistant through the American Association of Medical Assistants AAMA * Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through the American Medical Technologists (AMT) * Clinical Medical Assistant certification through the National Health Career Associates (NHA) * National Certified Medical Assistant through the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) * Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) administered by the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA). * Current Medical Assistant State licensure/certification required at date of hire (if applicable based on State where caregivers works). * Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required at date of hire. ALASKA PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS: * Work requires fairly light physical exertion 34 to 65% of the time. * Ability to lift objects weighing 30 lbs. or less. * Work requires frequent exposure to conditions involving minor cold, heat, poor ventilation or sharp instruments such as syringes or lancets.
