Team Overview

Impinj is seeking a Patent Associate to join our world-leading RAIN RFID intellectual property team. Impinj's battle-tested RAIN RFID patent portfolio is the largest in the world, and as a patent associate you will help expand that portfolio by preparing invention disclosures and patent applications under the supervision of our Principal Patent Agent. You will gain a deep understanding of our technology and existing patents, work with our inventors and engineers, research and understand potentially related and/or competing intellectual property and help us create new intellectual property.

Impinj regards its patent program as a strategic priority, so as Patent Associate you should expect regular interactions with our Chief Innovation Officer and Chief Executive Officer. As an integral part of Impinj's legal team, you will likely also be called upon to assist with patent and IP-related legal matters as they arise.

What you will do:

Essential tasks:

  • Assist the Principal Patent Agent in leading the Company's patenting program.

  • Prepare invention disclosures, provisional patent applications and utility patent applications, including drawings and figures.

  • Work with Principal Patent Agent and other team members to review patentable ideas and work within the company's patent preparation and application process.

  • Coordinate with outside patent counsel on prosecuting patent applications, including drafting and reviewing office-action responses.

Secondary tasks:

  • Maintain an internal patent docket tracking application status and deadlines.

  • Develop and maintain processes for tracking out patent portfolio, invention disclosures, etc.

  • Maintain the intellectual-property section of the Legal department's intranet page.

  • Perform other tasks and projects as necessary.

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, physics or related field; three years of industry experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (including Visio) or equivalent.

  • Excellent writing and communication skills.

  • Previous work experience in patents and intellectual property.

Compensation and Benefits:

The benefits listed below may vary depending on the nature of your employment with Impinj.

The typical base pay range for this role is $73,000 - $107,300. Individual base pay depends on various factors such as complexity and responsibility of the role, job duties, requirements and relevant experience and skills.

Impinj reviews market wage data and uses the midpoint of the pay range as the starting point for offers. Impinj makes offers within the base pay range applicable at the time.

At Impinj certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including merit increases, annual bonuses and stock. These awards are allocated based on individual performance.

In addition, certain roles have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee's role. US based employees have access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan and company match among others.
