The City of Thousand Oaks is seeking a customer service and detail oriented individual to assist members of the public who are applying for United States Passports. Agents are responsible for assisting with the application process, including accepting and verifying required documents, and processing appropriate payments.

Passport Acceptance Agents will perform general administrative and clerical duties including typing, filing, and variety of records management duties. The ideal candidate should have exceptional customer service skills, be able to answer general questions, and effectively interact with a wide range of individuals and groups.

Per the requirements of this position, candidates must be:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • a United States citizen/US non-citizen national
  • free from criminal convictions, including misdemeanors

Successful candidates will be required to satisfactorily complete the online Passport Acceptance Agent course and pass the online exam within two weeks from the date of hire. Passport Agent will be allowed two (2) attempts to pass the online exam.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • Demonstrated ability to provide consistent, high quality customer service to all members of the public

  • Outstanding organization skills and efficiency

  • High attention to detail and accuracy

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

  • A valid Class C California Driver's License

  • A high school diploma, or equivalent

  • Bilingual skills (Spanish) a plus

  • Flexibility to work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends

Hours for this position are approximately 12 to 15 per week.

Appointment hours are Monday - Thursday, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Work hours may extend to 5:30 and will vary based on operational needs. This position requires availability during library operating hours, and flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed. Passport Agents may work at both the Thousand Oaks Library and Newbury Park branch.
