This Part Time WG-03 Food Service Worker position is assigned to the Nutrition and Food Services (NFS) at the Portland, OR location of the VA Portland Health Care System (VAPORHCS).

The WG-03 Food Service Worker position is the journeyman level Food Service Worker and is a fully-trained, flexible employee who performs work which requires more specialized procedures, but also has responsibilities of a WG-01 and a WG-02 employee.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Correctly prepares, serves & handles food in sanitary, safe and timely manner using HACCP procedures. Assembles patient meals on trayline using tray tickets.
Preparation & delivery of individual nourishment, special feeding, standing orders, salads, desserts & sack meals.
Uses computer, therapeutic menus for special diets.
Maintains clean & well organized work area.
Completes cleaning assignments.
Operates & maintains commercial washing equipment.
Properly wash and safely handle dishes, silverware and pots/pans. Correctly handles MSDS information.
Effective communication skills with residents, staff, family members and visitors on daily bases.
Work in a team environment assisting with job duties, training and cross training.
Follows regulations for patient & computerized confidentiality.
Accurately completes quality control logs/data. Completes all annual training assignments.
Assist department with any quality improvement projects.
Uses appropriate personal protective equipment, lifting and pushing pulling of equipment safely.
Immediately reports any potential safety hazards.
Safely operates food preparation and service equipment using the correct set-up/loading/cleaning/temperature monitoring.
Reports need repairs &/or maintenance to supervisor.
Work schedule: Thurs - Mon, 4:30pm until 7:30pm

Incumbents work assignments that require moderate to heavy physical activity including constantly standing and walking: frequently moving and lifting objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted or more than 40 pounds with assistance, frequent stooping, reaching and pushing and pulling carts of considerable weight. May lift and move objects weighing 70-100 pounds. Hand dexterity is necessary in the utilization of machines to prepare foods. Works under pressure of incorporating mandatory meetings within timeframes of normal production and service of patient food. Mental & emotional stability required.
Is exposed to extreme temperatures because of steam and heat from cooking and dishwashing. Sometimes the employee is exposed to extreme temperatures in the walk-in refrigerators. The area is usually noisy and there is constant danger of slipping on floors where food or beverages have been spilled or from mopped floors. The employee is subject to minor injuries such as cuts and bruises and therefore must exercise caution at all times to minimize injury to self and staff. May come in contact with various chemicals within service. May come into contact with various types of patients including geriatric patients, emotionally disturbed patients and patients with infectious disease.
