ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Part-time Instructor at Fullstack Academy, you will be delivering our Bootcamp Prep course. You will help students with minimal coding experience begin the journey of becoming a software developer by covering key introductory topics. Youll deliver lectures and help students with coding challenges aimed at giving them the skills they need to successfully pass through a competitive bootcamp admissions process. Youll engage students, getting them excited about careers in software development and Fullstack Academy as a coding bootcamp.

This program runs Monday through Thursday, from 6:45 to 9:45pm out of our Chicago Campus space in 1871, Chicagos premier technology co-working space. This is a contract role and we're looking for a commitment of at least 2 nights per week.

RESPONSIBILITIES

In this role, you will:

  • Teach introductory-through-intermediate coding principles and the fundamentals of Javascript to students new to coding, through lectures and helping students with coding challenges, covering (for example):
    • Introductory topics such as data types, flow control, iteration, and built-in string/array methods
    • Advanced topics such as 'recursion', 'higher order functions'. and 'pass by value vs pass by reference'
  • Understand and explain to students how the skills theyre developing will directly apply to the bootcamp admissions process, a bootcamp program, and their potential career as a software developer
  • Excite and motivate a group of interested students to become the next generation of software developers

QUALIFICATIONS

You are a great candidate if you have:

  • 1+ year(s) of professional software development experience
  • A strong command of the fundamentals of coding and Javascript fundamentals
  • The ability to commit to at least 2 nights/week from 6:45-9:45pm in Downtown Chicago
  • An energetic and engaging presentation style
  • Enthusiasm and excitement about helping people enter the tech industry

You are an exceptional candidate if you have:

  • Experience teaching or mentoring, or experience in a management role as a software developer

As an underwriter focusing on our small contract accounts, you will market, underwrite, and service agents and brokers within an assigned territory. Supporting profitability goals, you will also use your business and financial acumen to perform primary credit underwriting and financial/risk analysis, provide recommendations, and make decisions on new and existing accounts. In addition, you'll use your excellent rapport skills to build and maintain positive relationships with underwriters, agents and accounts, and champion of small contract business. Position location is flexible within the Central and Eastern Time zones and within a Liberty Mutual Surety office. Level of position and salary based on experience. Responsibilities: * Underwrite new and existing Contract Transactional account submissions utilizing underwriting authority granted by Underwriting Officer and/or Manager. Make appropriate evaluations and assessments of a contractor's financial, technical, organizational, and management capacities as well as a subjective judgment of character. May meet with customers to facilitate above assessments. * Evaluate the qualitative characteristics of the business (new and existing) in assigned territory. Assess and identify changes in all aspects of the business including, but not limited to, work program to financial strength criteria, nature of work performed (inherent risk), accuracy and timeliness of data flow, and exposure analyses. Coordinate and surface issues to management. * As directed, monitor marketing, underwriting and/or administrative issues within various offices as assigned. Market the business and product throughout the assigned region to develop and grow as appropriate. May identify and promote program and opportunities in collaboration with and to field underwriters and agencies within assigned territory. * Effectively communicate areas of concern on new and existing business to Management and conscientiously pursues resolution of open issues, documents end result, and adjusts credit parameters extended to specific accounts based upon such facts. * Apply sound reason and business logic with credit recommendations which tend to fall outside of normal underwriting standards to reach decisions. Effectively document such logic in account/bond file and communicate to management and more senior staff as necessary. * As necessary, collaborate with Surety Claims to evaluate and/or resolve claim issues expeditiously and effectively, and if appropriate, takes immediate action to restrict credit on affected account. Inform management/ senior underwriting staff of claims issues. * Utilize various applications to monitor the quality of existing business. Input data on accounts as necessary to complete or modify analyses * Partner with field staff to identify, solicit, and contact producers in assigned territory. * Special projects as assigned. Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field expected. * A minimum 3+ years with a preference of 5 + years surety underwriting experience with progressive responsibility desired. Prior Contract Surety Underwriting background is necessary. * Solid understanding of financial and accounting principles and the ability to demonstrate sound business judgment in the evaluation of the financial condition, credit history, experience and character of contract accounts * Strong analytical abilities and decision-making skills. * Superior negotiating skills. * Excellent communication and organizational skills as well as attention to detail. * Ability to work independently and juggle many tasks simultaneously as well as a comfort level in interacting with people in a variety of settings. * Experience with computer applications is required. * Ability to interact successfully with agents, brokers, CPAs, bankers, attorneys, etc. to build & maintain good business relationships. * Ability to travel approximately 15%. * Level of position and salary based on experience.
