This position provides swim instruction at the City of Burlington's public pool facilities. The ideal candidate will have strong swimming and safety skills and should be able to deal courteously with the public in a group and private instruction setting. Instruction is offered to the public from ages 6 months - adult.
Represent the American Red Cross and the City of Burlington, NC in a positive light.
Follow swim plans issued by the Red Cross for the skill level you are teaching
Maintain an updated student roster
Take attendance daily - prior to beginning class
Map out block lesson plans and skills checklists, dictated by the Red Cross curriculum
Complete achievement cards for each student (due on the last day of class)
Organize the class environment to enhance individual and group performance and to minimize distractions
Submit course records in a timely manner
Issue course-completion certificates to swimmers
Examples of Duties
Responsible for teaching group and private swim lessons to ages 6 months adult
Session times and lengths vary by month and season.
Must be 16 years of age or older to apply.
Must be able to swim freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, elementary backstroke, butterfly, and sidestroke competently.
Previous experience either on a swim team or teaching lessons is preferred.
ASCA or WSI certification is required. Non-certified applicants may be considered for Instructor aids.
Lesson plans are provided, but applicant should be able to put a lesson plan together if needed and have the skills to implement it.
