Seeking one part-time hire to enforce state and local laws relating to public safety and public welfare. Essential duties include performing security duties for Blair County Courthouse; providing law enforcement, order, and security duties for internal and external customers (e.g., judges, courtrooms, Blair County Airport, County personnel); patrolling throughout Blair County in a cruiser for purpose of observing area for possible criminal activity or other conditions that could endanger public safety; enforcing on-view violations of Pennsylvania Crimes Code and Pennsylvania Vehicle Code; apprehending, arresting, and detaining criminal suspects and law violators; serving bench warrants, writs, summonses, executions, court notices, subpoenas, civil papers, and/or protection from abuse orders; completing daily activity reports; transporting and supervising prisoners and mental health patients; maintaining required level of proficiency in use of firearms and driving skills; and maintaining confidentiality of department dealings.

Requirements

Qualified applicants will hold a high school diploma or GED; successfully complete requirements to graduate from Pennsylvania Sheriff and Deputy Sheriff Education and Training Program or of a municipal or state police training academy within 12 months of placement into position if without certificate at hire; possess minimum of one years work experience; be at least 21 years old at time of employment; possess proficient interpersonal relations and communications skills, strong customer service orientation, and have no state or federal convictions for a crime punishable by imprisonment in a state or federal prison (includes domestic violence).

Benefits

Starting wage for this nonexempt position is $11.80/hour for a workweek not to exceed an annual average of 29 hours a week. Essential duties include:</p><p>* Maintains a fair and firm relationship with inmates.</p><p>* Monitors and patrols an assigned area of facility; supervises inmates in housing units or off-site; observes inmates to detect disturbances. Remains alert at all times.</p><p>* Explains Prison rules, regulations, and procedures; responds to questions or complaints. Refers significant issues to proper staff specialists.</p><p>* Escorts inmates throughout facility; enforces facility policies and procedures; oversees work of inmates in housekeeping, kitchen, and work-release functions.</p><p>* Maintains current records of inmate population, whereabouts, clothing, and supplies. Prepares logs or reports as necessary. Submits written reports of violations of institutional rules.</p><p>* Conducts searches of inmates, inmate mail, and inmate quarters for contraband and to prevent against health or safety hazards.</p><p>* Transports inmates to and from facility, courts, medical facilities, etc., as required.</p><p>* Works varied, inconsistent shifts with potential for overtime across all three shifts, up to a total of 16 consecutive hours.</p><p><strong>Requirements</strong></p><p>Qualified applicants will have a high school diploma or GED; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to remain fair and impartial in the performance of duties; ability to provide clear and concise direction; ability to recognize and address manipulative behavior; have reliable transportation; and have no convictions for a crime by a state or federal government for which the punishment could have been imprisonment in a federal penitentiary or state prison. Additionally, candidates must be able to sustain the physical nature of the job, standing and walking on concrete for extended period of time; maintaining focus; expending occasional physical effort without the aid of weapons to restrain or subdue inmates; and working with inmates who may carry infectious diseases.</p><p><strong>Benefits</strong></p><p>Starting wage for this nonexempt position is $14.42/hour for a workweek not to exceed an annual average of 29 hours a week.
