The City of Irvine is seeking skilled candidates with a background in animal care, demonstrated office experience and strong customer service skills to assist with the front office operations at the Irvine Animal Care Center. This position is Part-time with a schedule requirement of 19 hours per week.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Assist the public with paperwork for the receipt and intake of impounded animals, animal adoptions, animal licensing and general animal reunions with owners.
Respond to public inquiries and answer a variety of questions about Animal Care Center programs and services via the telephone and in person.
Perform general clerical tasks such as data entry into the Chameleon database, record keeping, answering phones, copying and filing.
Assist with processing, collecting and accounting for money.
May train and provide day-to-day direction to entry-level staff.
Maintain inventories and lists; order supplies and forms.
Research and review a variety of materials; maintain and update files, records and logs pertaining to the Animal Care Center.
HOURS: 19 hours per week, weekday hours may vary and some weekend availability is required.
Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
High School diploma or equivalent and one year of responsible clerical experience or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. Experience working in an animal shelter or animal care setting, strongly preferred.
Ability to multi-task in a busy animal shelter environment with exposure to a variety of domestic and wild animals with varying degrees of dander, fur and feathers.
Excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to respond to potentially intense, sensitive situations in a rational and decisive manner, using tact, self-restraint and good judgment.
Ability to take direction, work independently, and display detail orientation and excellent organizational skills.
General administrative and computer experience a must.
Ability to push, pull, drag, lift, and carry equipment/supplies (weighing up to 50 lbs), and ability to lean, stoop, twist, and bend in the performance of job.

The Community Services Department has developed over the City's history into an award winning mixture of programs and services.
