This part-time non-traditional success coach position will be focusing on the working adult and will strive to help them succeed in the classroom by creating a semester long orientation-like experience that provides mentorship and academic skills training. The coach will also help students navigate the Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) process, guide them through program advising, reach out to them during critical intervention points in the semester to encourage and assist students in securing student support services, assist with course registration, applying for FAFSA and scholarships, and explore successful student habits as they complete their post-secondary journeys.

This non-traditional success coach will serve 100 non-traditional students through assistance with career exploration, program selection, and intrusive advising along with helping the students seek out and secure needed student support services as they navigate their re-introduction to higher education. Partnerships will be leveraged with other departments such as Veteran??s Upward Bound and Student Support Services to help ensure students know where and how to receive support. Assistance will also be given in connecting with Career Services to assist with job seeking and soft-skill development as they complete their program of study.

Minimum Qualifications

Demonstrated familiarity with VA Wizard, EMSI and/or other career exploration programs; 3+ years of experience working with high school or college aged students; Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Strong comfort level with technology in the workplace; Experience with public speaking and/or giving presentations; Valid Driver??s license; Ability to travel as needed with occasional overnight stays for required meetings

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor??s degree in education, counseling or a related field; Experience as a high school career coach in the VCCS; Proven ability to build positive relationships with internal/external stakeholders; Experience using a case management system; VCCS Career Coach credential

Qualifications * Currently licensed or registered as an occupational therapist by the state in which practicing, unless that State does not license occupational therapists or otherwise regulate the practice of occupational therapy. Is eligible to take or has successfully completed the NBCOT entry-level certification examination for occupational therapists. * Prior experience in Occupational Therapy/OT preferred, but not necessary.
