The City of Irvine seeks a highly skilled and detail-oriented graphic designer specializing in catalog and newsletter layout. This technical position relies on a strong grasp of basic graphic design principals, deadline management, strong organizational skills, and excellent written and verbal skills. This position is responsible for layout of the Activity Guide portion of Inside Irvine magazine, in addition to layout of newsletters for departmental sections such as Disability Services and Senior Services. Additional design projects may include fliers and advertisements for City publications. This position is Extended Part-Time with a schedule requirement of 30-32 hours per week.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are normal for this classification. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Provides layout and complete design services for flyers, newsletters, brochures, posters, maps, graphs and marketing/promotional materials.
Lays out and pastes up material for department use at public presentations.
Inventories, orders and maintains graphic materials, supplies and equipment, including computer hardware and software.
Coordinates projects with outside consultants and vendors, such as printers and photographic studios.
Prepares and lays out forms for City use.
Performs technical research related to assignment under supervision.
Provide training on the operation of graphics equipment
Performs other functions as assigned
Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
Equivalent to the completion of high school, supplemented by courses in computer design and/or and some experience performing a variety of graphics and desktop publishing work; or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities. May require a valid California driver's license.
Bachelor's degree preferred
Organized and detail-oriented with strong administrative, organizational and multi-tasking skills
Computer skills in Microsoft Office products, various graphics design software and the ability to learn new software.
Flexibility to make modifications and edits as required.
Excellent communication and customer service skills and ability to work in a team environment.
Ability to meet deadlines of a production schedule.
Some marketing and/or advertising experience preferred.
