The Rewards Solutions practice at Aon is Looking for a Partner in our Employee Rewards business

As part of an industry-leading team, you will help empower results for our clients by delivering innovative and effective solutions in our Rewards Solutions Consulting practice.

Locations: Boston, New York, DC, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Chicago, Houston and Dallas

As a Partner, you will be responsible for building relationships with client senior business leaders to generate revenue and lead a team in the delivery of high-quality client solutions on multiple client engagements. You will also play an important role in overseeing the development of the technical/consulting skills of our team members, especially in the areas of job architecture and career leveling frameworks, cash compensation programs and equity compensation strategy.



  • Provide leadership or mentoring to project managers, consultants and analysts

  • Offer input on staffing needs to meet business demands and guide the recruitment and on-boarding of new team members

  • Participate in setting strategy, annual budgets and staffing plans as a member of our regional leadership team

  • Share subject matter expertise on technical issues, business development techniques, and/or project management skills with colleagues

Business Development

  • Lead and create business development strategies for companies in various stages of lifecycle

  • Identify current and future needs among our client base to pursue new or expanded work

  • Manage the development of proposals and sales efforts

Content Development

  • Develop innovative client solutions, including new plan design or implementation approaches

  • Promote brand awareness by writing articles and presenting at industry events

  • Strong track record of business development and selling in a rewards consulting practice

  • Expert knowledge of consulting within compensation strategy, design, and implementation issues, including rewards strategy, base pay, short- and long-term incentives and career architecture

  • Demonstrated ability to understand and analyze complex business problems to identify root cause issues and potential solutions

  • Advanced consultative skills, including relationship building, process definition and meeting facilitation

  • Advanced project management skills

  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent undergraduate degree is required.

  • Master's degree or MBA is highly desired.

  • Minimum of 10-15 years of relevant work experience

  • Recent compensation consulting experience is required

  • Ability to travel and work at client locations (up to 50%) is required

Reporting to the Chief People Officer, the Vice President of Total Rewards will be responsible for providing thought leadership and expertise as well as designing and managing a Total Rewards portfolio to attract, motivate and retain a best-in-class growing employee population at Apellis. The successful candidate will excel at planning, analyzing, implementing and communicating company-wide compensation and benefits programs that support our goals and objectives. The best candidate for this role will be highly energetic and demonstrate tenacious interest in the development of emerging benefits and compensation practices to position Apellis as of the top employers in the biotech industry. Responsibilities: * Determine and set the key annual compensation priorities by identifying the necessary items to support short and long-term goals as well as opportunities for continuous improvement. * Proactively evaluate, recommend and deliver compensation and benefit programs including base pay, executive compensation, short and long-term incentive programs as well as employee recognition. * Manage executive compensation through program administration, data survey submission, market analyses, ad hoc reports, and monitoring and verifying survey data. * Make informed recommendations for improvements in qualified and non- qualified and deferred compensation vehicles to assure market parity relative to the executive and non-executive levels. * Partner with HR team and Sales Leadership on sales compensation planning. Responsible for managing and executing IC design, process, deliverables and support. * Create and present compensation materials, including report drafting and analysis, for senior level management and Board of Directors. * Manage our external compensation partners to develop strategic equity programs that scale as the company grows. * Assess current compensation levels and mix relative to the external market and to internal positions. * Manage competitive bench-marking analysis for base, incentive and equity. Conduct research to keep current on best practices. * Ensure appropriate financial controls are in place for incentive-based compensation programs, analyzing cost implications of current and proposed plans. * Ensure that the organization's pay practices comply with federal and state laws and regulations, such as workers compensation, minimum wage, overtime, and equal pay laws. * Other duties as required. Qualifications: * 12+ years of experience in Human Resources preferably within Life Sciences * Ability to work collaboratively in a team, facilitate cross functional alignment, inspire trust and confidence from HR colleagues and business partner customers. * Demonstrated, strong knowledge of executive compensation and equity compensation is required. * Prior experience in working with and presenting to Compensation Committees/Boards. * Experience developing sales incentive compensation models and programs preferred. * Proven knowledge and experience working with benefit programs, brokers and vendors for health, dental, life and disability insurance, 401(k), ERISA, COBRA, FLMA, ADA and ACA essential. * Previous experience presenting to senior leadership team, Comp Committee and Board of Directors on compensation and benefit topics. * Self- directed, organized, detail oriented, results driven with a commitment to quality and accuracy. * Ability to work at the strategic and tactical level and comfortable shifting back and forth. * Proven skill with Excel and HRIS development and management. * Project Management experience to manage multiple programs across the organization. * Excellent communication skills with an ability to communicate across a variety of audiences including colleagues, leaders, customers, and senior management. * Results driven. Is motivated by identifying and delivering programs that support the business strategy to achieve success. * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills * The ability to work well in a fast paced, innovative and performance driven environment. * Enthusiastic, positive, upbeat, "can-do" attitude; doesn't take themselves too seriously and has a sense of humor. * Demonstrated ability to engage effectively at all levels of the organization and be a strong contributing team member. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
