Job Description:

CityU School of Education and Leadership seeks qualified teaching faculty and subject matter experts for our Teacher Certification Program, which trains preservice teachers (and some in-service teachers) at both undergraduate and graduate levels. The ideal candidates have a strong foundation in DEIB and culturally-affirming pedagogies, with individuals holding at least one historically marginalized identity being a plus.

Part-time Teaching Faculty at City University of Seattle has three key responsibilities:

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

  • 4-5 years of teaching experience in a P-12 classroom environment.

  • Bachelor's Degree in education or a related field.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Zoom, and experience with (or willing to learn) online Learning Management Systems/Platforms.

  • P-12 teaching experience and subject matter expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Diversity/Equity/Inclusion & Culturally Affirming Pedagogies

  • Public School Law

  • Reading & Literacy (especially Science of Reading)

  • Math

  • Science/STEM

  • Social Studies/Humanities & Native Education

  • Social Emotional Learning/Child Mental Health/Behavior

  • Multilingual/English Language Learners

  • Special Education, Disabilities & Twice-Exceptional Learners

Desired Qualifications:

  • Valid WA State Teacher or Admin Certificate.

  • Graduate-level degree in education or a related field.

  • Experience serving in diverse communities.

  • Teaching and leadership experience in a variety of roles, levels, and subjects.

  • Experience teaching adult learners, especially teachers.

  • Proficiency and experience in online environments, including experience as an online instructor.

Additional Information:

Salary Information:

The Part-time Teaching Faculty salary is based on the course level (graduate, undergraduate), number of course credits, and enrollment headcount.

Contractual Obligations:

Part-Time Teaching Faculty is not under a general contract. They are hired into a general "pool" and may receive nominations to teach individual courses on a rotating basis depending on various factors, including enrollment and course availability. Regular teaching assignments are not guaranteed beyond individual nominations as they become available throughout the year.

If nominated for a course, there may be a combination of online asynchronous, online synchronous, or in-person teaching time, likely including weekend hours.
