JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Science BS/MBA accelerated joint degree program is seeking a qualified applicant to serve as a Teaching Assistant (TA) for the Fall 2024 Science BS/MBA section of PSU 16, a one-credit First Year Seminar Course for BS/MBA undergraduate students, which also qualifies as a Writing Across the Curriculum (W) course. The primary goal of the course is to introduce students to fundamental business concepts, refine skills to support success, practice communication and writing skills, and provide guidance for personal and academic success in support of their application for the Smeal MBA program. The course meets in person for 1 hour and 15 minutes once per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Attending the class meetings to facilitate and provide feedback

  • Giving in-depth feedback on student written submissions and verbal presentations

  • Meeting with students, as needed, to assist them in their self-study

  • Reviewing or preparing quiz materials

  • Reviewing existing course materials with an eye to improve the content, identifying materials for self-study from available sources including Harvard Business Publishing cases and simulations, on-line resources (e.g., MOOCs, YouTube), journal articles (e.g., HBR, McKinsey, Deloitte), the Penn State Library, and other resources

Qualifications:

  • Applicant must be a Penn State graduate student during Fall 2024 semester, with preference given to someone in the Smeal MBA Program

  • Applicant must have taken science and business courses relevant to the first-year seminar course discipline

Applicants should submit a cover letter indicating their interest in the position and qualifications. Also submit a current resume, if one is not on file with the BS/MBA Program, that includes: semester standing, relevant courses taken and grades received in these classes, undergraduate and graduate (if relevant) GPA, and expected graduation date. If the applicant is not in the BS/MBA Program, provide a name and contact information for 1 reference related to the area of study.
