Job Title Part-Time Staff Psychologist/Counselor Summary

John Carroll University's Counseling Center is seeking a temporary, part-time Counselor/Psychologist/Clinical Social Worker with demonstrated clinical experience working in a college counseling setting and/or with adolescent and young adult populations. This is a temporary, grant-funded position that will last through May 2025. Responsibilities include phone screenings, referral, intake assessment, individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, collaborative outreach programming, and consultation with faculty, staff, and parents. We are currently working to enhance our outreach and clinical work with Students of Color. We welcome applications from those who have demonstrated experience with People of Color and marginalized populations. A primary purpose of this position is to work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure the effective provision of high-quality counseling services to students that reduce barriers to learning and create opportunities for greater academic achievement and student success.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides phone screenings, referrals, intake evaluations, and individual and group counseling, including some regular evening hours

  • Completes clinical documentation in a timely way

  • Provides trainings and consultations to the campus community, including students, faculty, staff and parents, may include an emphasis on enhancing connection and increasing access to care for Students of Color

  • Provides crisis intervention

  • Contribute to training for graduate student interns working in the center, as needed

  • Performs other functions or duties as assigned by the Director

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited program in Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or related field.

  • Ohio License to practice at the master's level (LPC, LSW) or completion of doctoral internship hours in psychology.

  • Possess and demonstrate the ability to work with diverse constituencies and have excellent skills in oral and written communication.

  • Interest in understanding and supporting John Carroll's mission to inspire individuals to excel in learning, leadership, and service in the region and in the world.

Preferred Qualifications

  • LPCC, LPCC-S, LISW, LISW-S, or licensed psychologist in the state of Ohio.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse clients and interest in working with issues of identity and culture, especially with Students of Color

Normal Work Location, Hours and Conditions

This position works in person from our campus in University Heights, Ohio. Generally, 20-25 hours per week as assigned, including some regular evening hours (about 2-4 hours/week after 5pm). University core business hours are generally 8:30 am - 5:00 pm. However, this position will require work to be performed outside of normal business hours based on department operations.

Physical Requirements

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; to travel to other office locations and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

Hours Part Time FLSA Non-Exempt (Hourly) Compensation & Benefits

Starting salary range is $27.00 - $34.00 /hour, based on qualifications.
