Part Time Simulation Technician

OVERVIEW

The University of St. Thomas invites qualified candidates to apply for a Simulation Technician position within the Center for Simulation at the Morrison Family College of Health.

This position is part time, up to 20 hours a week.

JOB SUMMARY

The simulation technician will provide comprehensive technical support for The Center for Simulation, including operation, maintenance, reliability, and performance of medical simulators, computers and audiovisual equipment. The Simulation Technician assists The Center for Simulation staff and Morrison Family College of Health faculty in supporting all student learning activities in The Center for Simulation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Provides comprehensive technical support for care and maintenance of equipment within The Center for Simulation

• Provides technical support, care and maintenance of high/medium/low fidelity simulators, and virtual simulation equipment

• Provides technical support for the operation and maintenance of related instructional equipment including audio/video distribution systems, computer-based programs, and lab medical equipment

• Serves as simulator operator by programming, testing, and running scenarios with faculty instructors, assuring that the facility and equipment are ready for instruction

• Troubleshoots technical issues and provide timely solutions during simulation sessions

• Assists in the recording of simulated sessions and transferring to archival format

• Installs software and hardware upgrades and maintains functionality of simulator components as directed by manufacturer support

• Interfaces with equipment manufacturers regarding equipment troubleshooting and system problems; maintains record of repairs and service

• Interfaces with internal departments such as Facilities, ITS, etc.

• Coordinates the shipping and receiving of equipment as needed

Provides support for The Center for Simulation activities

• Facilitates access to The Center for Simulation by opening and/or closing the center as needed

• Changes out or resets scene between simulation scenarios

• Assists with providing realistic scenarios and settings through clinically accurate prop placement and moulage

• Supports/assists in role playing

• Ensures supplies are stocked according to inventory requirements

• Performs housekeeping and maintenance tasks as needed to provide an optimal learning environment

Assists in the overall operations of The Center for Simulation

• Organizes reference materials, equipment specifications, maintenance agreements, and warranties

• Generates reports related to simulation program activities, including tracking of simulation center usage and equipment usage

• Develop and implement a comprehensive maintenance schedule for all simulation equipment

• Performs ongoing equipment maintenance and repair documentation

• Maintains simulation equipment documents and documentation of equipment usage, periodic maintenance and ongoing equipment repair

• Collaborates with Assistant Director of Nursing Simulation Education to maintain simulation program policies and procedures

• Orients student Project Assistants to the Center for Simulation and identifies operational tasks for completion

Assists with Student Learning

• Assists with orientation of students to The Center for Simulation, high/medium/low fidelity simulators, simulation laboratory equipment and virtual simulation equipment

• Assists in orientation of students to digital resources supporting simulation education

• Provides input into The Center for Simulation policies, processes, and procedures

• Encourages student compliance with The Center for Simulation policies, procedures, and safety precautions

Other Responsibilities

• Assists with orientation of faculty to the simulation center, high/medium/low fidelity simulators, and virtual reality equipment

• Assists with orientation of faculty to digital audio-video systems (access/operation)

• Participates in School of Nursing meetings and work groups of the Morrison Family College of Health and School of Nursing

• Participates in professional activities to remain proficient in existing and emerging technologies for integration into the educational process

• Develops collaborative relationships with faculty and staff within the School of Nursing, Morrison Family College of Health, ITS and STELAR, and the campus community

• Develops collegial relationships with personnel from other organizations. Carries out other responsibilities as delegated or assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate's degree in a relevant field such as technology or healthcare

• One year of professional level experience to include the use and application of simulation technology

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with medical terminology and/or medical background or medical simulation experience preferred

• Motivation and commitment to participate in simulation continuing education through professional organizations, vendors and other resources to develop simulation proficiency and maintain awareness of healthcare simulation trends and opportunities
