Part-Time Riding Instructor

Randolph-Macon College, a liberal arts institution of 1,500 undergraduate students, located in Ashland, Virginia, seeks an Assistant Part-Time Riding Instructor who will be responsible for providing lessons to students and help coaching the Equestrian team at the College in addition to developing program activities for camps and planning and coordinating school barn shows.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 50 riding lessons per month.

  • Monitor the condition of the horses and ponies and report any illness or injury as directed.

  • Assist with program activities for camps.

  • Monitor the condition of the riding equipment and report any damage as directed.

  • Assist with activities of the IHSA/IEA Team

  • Assist with the planning and coordination of CHSA/VHSA shows at R-MC Equestrian Center

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a BA/BS from an accredited college or university

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in equine care and training, as well as showing at recognized competitions,

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in teaching private and group lessons,

  • Valid Virginia driver's license- ability to drive a truck towing a horse trailer is required.

  • Excellent leadership, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills required,

  • Basic computer proficiency required, preferably including MS Office.

  • A firm understanding of horses and the temperament of each individual horse.

  • Ability to handle and lead horses from place to place.

  • Recognize when horses are becoming unruly and react accordingly for safety reasons.

  • Ability to make thorough decisions in emergency situations regarding horses and humans.
