Part-Time Research Assistants

One position .50 FTE (20 hours per week) and one position .25 FTE (10 hours per week)

The Missouri Institute of Mental Health (MIMH), a research institute at the University of Missouri-St.

Louis is seeking two part-time 988 Community Evaluators to work on the 988 Marketing Evaluation.

MIMH has been conducting surveys and focus groups to explore Missouri residents' awareness and knowledge of 988, along with use and perceptions. One important finding discovered was that the St.

Louis area, which includes St.

Louis City and St.

Louis, Jefferson, Franklin, St. Charles, Warren, and Lincoln counties, was identified to be the least aware of 988, highlighting the need for increased promotion and evaluation efforts in the St.

Louis area. The part-time 988 Community Evaluator would be involved in evaluating the marketing campaign and messaging efforts in the St.

Louis area and gain insights into the best way to inform the St.

Louis area about 988. The 988 Community Evaluator would be responsible for working with the current project team to determine what is working well with the current messaging and marketing materials and how to improve these efforts in the St.

Louis area.

Additionally, the 988 Community Evaluator will work with community members to educate and promote 988 to increase awareness. These positions are grant-funded for the next 12 months. Longer-term employment may be available based on employee performance and interest and if additional funding is available, but it is not guaranteed.

Responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Forge relationships with champions and influential figures within our specified groups, including Service Members, Veterans, and their families (SMVF), older adults, LGBTQ+ communities, college/school age youth, and other community groups such as employers, faith-based organizations, first responders. The primary goal of this relationship is to jointly engage in initiatives focused on enhancing awareness and knowledge of the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.

  • Distribute educational materials to target populations about 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.

  • Conduct interviews and focus groups with St.

    Louis community members to gain insights to their knowledge of the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline and how best to spread awareness to the rest of the community.

  • Deliver informational programs to target audience to enhance their comprehension of the purpose of the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.

  • Initiate phone conversations, face-to-face meetings, and subsequent follow-up calls to create and sustain connections with community collaborators and stakeholders.

  • Attend community events to increase awareness of 988 and evaluate current promotional efforts.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Training, knowledge, comfort, and confidence discussing mental health and suicide with community members.

  • Ability to engage community members in a conversation about suicide prevention and the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.

  • Training or experience is suicide prevention best practice and effective suicide prevention communication is preferred.

8am-5pm, Monday through Friday

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

Experience/comfort working and communicating with diverse communities, including from different socioeconomic backgrounds. Culturally competent and aware of race, gender, class, sexuality, ability, etc.

Excellent verbal and culturally competent communication skills (in person, on the telephone, and through email correspondence). Responsive communication to team and external stakeholder and partners.

Willingness to work flexible hours at times (some nights/weekends).

Strong public speaking and presentation skills.

Valid driver's license with reliable transportation and car insurance with the ability to travel up to 90 miles to perform duties related to this position. Ability and willingness to travel with reliable transportation. Travel will be within Missouri.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Pay commensurate with education and experience.

Hiring Range $16.23 - $22.24 hourly
