POSITION SUMMARY

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is excited to add a Recreation Assistant to the team. This part-time position will be located at Grady Cole Center and American Legion Memorial Stadium. This position will oversee tournaments and special events and act as site supervisor in the absence of the Facility Managers. The incumbent will also be responsible for scoreboard operations during stadium events and tournaments. In addition, they will also perform supply and equipment inventory during events and will also be responsible for marketing and promoting current and new programs/events at Grady Cole Center and American Legion Memorial Stadium. This position will work about 29 hours per week, which will include varying days and hours. This may include evenings, weekends and holidays depending on business needs. This position will primarily be working outdoors and may encounter varying weather conditions.

Facility Information: The Grady Cole Center (3,000 seat-capacity civic center) and American Legion Memorial Stadium (a 10,000-seat stadium) are large scale public assembly rental venues owned and operated by Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department. The facilities lie adjacent to each other on a 12-acre parcel of land nestled within Central Piedmont Community College's Central Campus in uptown Charlotte.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working in athletic venue and/or sports operations

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide customer service and handling of funds in a recreation center or park facility through telephone, emails, web site, social media and walk in patrons and customers for information, program registration, center daily use and rentals

  • Ensure safety of participants/spectators and administer first aid when necessary

  • Enforce rules and regulations

  • Collect fees and taking registrations for recreational programs and facility rentals

  • Assist in light maintenance of facilities and recreational areas

  • Referee at various sports activities; provide services as timekeeper, scorekeeper or line-person at games

  • Assist with various recreational programs for all ages

  • Handle inquiries and complaints from public

  • Assist with special events and field trips

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: No experience required

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent

Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted?: N/A

Licenses/Certifications: Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License and County Driving Privileges; CPR/First Aid

Computer Skills: General knowledge of various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite
