JOB SUMMARY
The Overnight Desk Clerk, under the supervision of the Lakeside Residence Life Coordinator, serves as a frontline housing staff member and is responsible for the general welfare of residential students, safety of the residence halls, and enforcement of residence hall policies and regulations while on duty. The Overnight Desk Clerk position is a part-time job excluding benefits (2 nights per week starting at midnight until 8:00 AM). The Overnight Desk Clerk is expected to be mature, dependable, responsible, trustworthy, and display good judgment in decision-making.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve on a regular schedule assigned to the desk as established by the supervisor.
Maintain an accurate desk log of all activities and problems spotted while on duty.
Respond to emergencies as they arise in the building according to designated procedures.
Maintain a safe and productive atmosphere in the community areas.
Be thoroughly familiar with and able to enforce the policies and regulations of the college and residence hall.
Conduct the desk in a business-like manner.
Read desk log at beginning of duty to gather instructions or information left by the Residence Life Staff.
Be assertive in requesting identification of non-residents and cognizant of traffic patterns in the building.
Maintain contact with ABAC Police when needed.
Document incidents utilizing StarRez.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIRED BY POSITION
Ability to work effectively with college students.
Written and verbal communication skills.
Familiarity with first-year residence halls and the problems that first-year students often face.
Ability to create a conducive work environment among student-staff.
Ability to work independently and meet desired departmental goals.
Ability to display good judgment in decision-making.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Residence Life Coordinator assigns work in terms of office goals and objectives. The supervisor reviews work through reports and observation of office activities.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include the Academic Catalog, Student Handbook, Guide to Residential Living, FERPA regulations, Title IX regulations, FHA regulations, and USG guidelines and policies.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
The work consists of varied communication duties to ensure a safe and healthy environment for students living in the residence halls.

Contacts are typically with co-workers, other college employees, current students, prospective students, families, and friends of residents, and Corvias.
Contacts are typically to provide services; to give or exchange information; to resolve problems; to motivate or influence people; or to justify, defend, or negotiate matters.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma
Ability to work as a member of a team in a diverse, service-oriented environment.
Must be responsible.
Must be able to arrive on time and stay for the entirety of shift.
