YAI is looking for a part time DSP 1 to work in our Avenue Z residential program. Avenue Z is a home to 8 people varying in degree medically and age with disabilities who enjoy taking walks in the community, various community activities i.e. baseball games, circus, or arts and crafts groups.
They also enjoy watching tv, and listening to music. The dedicated and creative staff at the Avenue Z residence are excellent at engaging the people we support by giving multiple opportunities for creative involvement. Some of the people we support at the Avenue Z residence cannot communicate, travel or socialize the way most people do. At the Avenue Z residence staff do an amazing job supporting the people by up keeping their house, rooms, laundry and cooking.

The ideal candidate for the Direct Support Professional (DSP) position will have an enthusiasm for helping people and be comfortable working with people who require supports in activities of daily living such as assisting with showering, toileting, and grooming. Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) work directly with people needing assistance in their home, work, and daily life in varying capacities. A DSP's goal is to help people live as they want by assisting them in the areas/activities that promote independence.
Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday 3pm - 9pm
Effective communication skills
Ability to work well in a team
Basic written and verbal communication
Basic computer skills
Time management skills
High School Diploma or GED; some college is a plus
Valid Driver's License, NY State preferred
Work or life experience supporting people with intellectual/developmental disabilities preferred
Tuberculosis test mandatory for most positions (provided FREE of charge by our Premier HealthCare clinic)
