Job Title: Migrant Clerk (Part-Time) Wage/Hour Status: Hourly/Non-Exempt

Reports To: Executive Director of State & Pay Plan: Supplemental /Miscellaneous

Federal Programs Dept./School: District-Wide

Primary Purpose: To canvass community for identification and recruitment of migrant families and provide support. To maintain proper and required documentation.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

High School diploma/equivalent or higher

Valid Driver's License

Must participate in ID&R (Identification and Recruitment) of Migrant Students Training

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Bilingual in English and Spanish-Written and Spoken Skills (preferred)

Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate with parents, students, campus administrators and staff.

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Actively identify and recruit eligible migrant children residing in the school district using methods such as establishing communications networks, surveying the area, and periodically surveying students.

  • Make home visits and interview migrant families to determine eligibility for services and make them aware of available school and social services programs in the area.

  • Maintains an accurate filing system for all migrant student records.

  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of the NGS and Eligibility Guidelines.

  • Completes eligibility forms for each migrant child, processes all eligibility forms, updates and reviews records for accuracy and logs all transactions sent to Education Service Center.

  • Complies with the required NGS component activities that will meet the Texas Education Agency monitoring standards.

  • Organizes and maintains a daily activity log.

  • Contacts school, community agencies and other organizations to obtain information leading to the identification of migrant families.

  • Explains the Texas Child Migrant Programs to parents, students, school personnel, and the community.

  • Establishes withdrawal notification procedures with registrars, requests information and sends to Education Service Center.

  • Maintains a professional level of confidentiality concerning contents of eligibility records.

  • Maintains accurate student count by grade level of all eligible migrant students of TEA.

  • Compiles data for reports as assigned by the Education Service Center or by the School District Director.

  • Communicates all changes to campus secretaries in charge of migrant student codes.

  • Inputs and maintains accurate computer information for student, program, and equipment accountability.

  • Plans and implements parental involvement program.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals

Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse

Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)

Environment: Work is performed in an office setting; may require occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions

Salary Range: $16-$22 Per Hour
