The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) has begun offering both a major in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpretation and a minor in ASL Studies. Preliminary enrollment figures indicate ASL courses are in great demand.
Often, ASL courses not only meet capacity but have students waitlisted. The Lecturer position would help accommodate demand. UTRGV faculty will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to scholarly work, student success, and advancing the university, college, and program missions and are committed to UTRGV's strategic plan, vision, mission, values, and core priorities. Evidence of Proficiency in American Sign Language (e.g., minimum ASL Proficiency Interview score of 3.0 or national and/or state ASL interpreter certification).
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Education Required: Master's degree or higher in the area of ASL, Deaf Studies, Deaf Education, Linguistics, or Interpretation
Minimum Experience Required: Three (3) years of experience teaching at the collegiate level, and evidence of service (local, state, national).
Discipline Specific Required Qualifications
Evidence of Proficiency in American Sign Language (e.g., minimum ASL Proficiency Interview score of 3.0 or national and/or state ASL interpreter certification).
Preferred Qualification
Some experience in teaching in higher education is preferred.
