Job Description
UMKC School of Law is seeking a part-time Library Information Assistant to join our team. Under the supervision of the Circulation and Operations Librarian and/or other departmental staff, the employee will be responsible with assisting faculty, staff, students and the public in basic reference, circulation, and other basic library services at the Leon. E. Bloch Law Library.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Providing quality customer service to faculty, staff, students, and the public
Circulation of materials
Processing material requests
Shelving and filing materials including books, pocket parts, supplements, and loose-leafs
Applying call numbers, barcodes, labels, etc. as needed
Tracking library statistics
Processing materials for withdrawal
Collection maintenance which may include, but is not limited to shifting, straightening, shelf reading, and dusting
Participating in library and law school projects including, but not limited to large inventories, library events, and the creation of displays
Supporting the overall cleanliness of the library by walking through the library stacks and student areas daily to keep spaces organized, clean, and neat
Data entry and other clerical duties as assigned
Additionally, the employee may also be asked to support student library assistants with service desk coverage, assisting patrons with technical issues such as printing and scanning, directing reference questions to librarians, and directing patrons to library materials and the Self-Help Law Clinic when necessary.
Shift
Part-time (18 hours per week).
Shift(s): Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 8:00 am - 2:30 pm (Lunch break included)
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a library, museum, or bookstore environment
Willingness to work with diverse patrons
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Polite and professional demeanor
Ability to successfully perform detailed work
Microsoft Office skills
Ability to shelve materials in alphanumeric order
Willingness to learn
Problem solving skills
Ability to move wheeled book carts weighing up to 50 pounds
Ability to work at a desk or stand while working with the collection
Anticipated Hiring Range
$15.00 - $16.00 per hour commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity.
