Pending budgetary approval, The Less-Commonly-Taught-Languages Center in the University of Pittsburgh's Department of Linguistics seeks a non-tenure-stream Part-Time Instructor of Swahili to teach courses in that language for the Fall semester 2024 and Spring Semester 2025. Fall classes start on August 26, 2024. The position is expected to continue for the 2025-2026 school year (fall and spring semesters).
Minimum Requirements:
A master's degree (or foreign equivalent degree) in Swahili Language Pedagogy, Linguistics, Foreign Language Pedagogy, or a related field;
Two (2) years of experience in teaching Swahili at the college level;
Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching as well as advanced or superior level proficiency in Swahili (speaking/listening and reading/writing) and a strong command of English;
The applicant does not have to live in Pittsburgh as remote teaching is an option, but in-person instruction is preferred.
Apply by uploading a letter of application, a current CV, a diversity statement, evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., student surveys, peer and supervisor reviews), and the names and email addresses of three references, at least one of which should be able to comment explicitly on the candidate's teaching ability.
