Job Posting Summary

Mercy University is seeking a part time laboratory technician to work at the Bronx and Dobbs Ferry campuses. The successful candidates will assist the full time lab staff in supporting laboratory sections for undergraduate biology, chemistry and physics labs.

Primary work responsibilities include: lab safety and compliance; preparing for, setting up, cleaning and turning over of biology, chemistry and physics labs in coordination with course instructors and lab managers; tracking and restocking supplies; maintaining inventories and equipment; assisting in waste disposal; mentoring and collaborating with student workers; and general upkeep of the teaching and research laboratories. Other duties will be performed as assigned.

Qualifications

Schedule must be flexible and the individual must be able to take initiative and work independently. A willingness to work collaboratively with faculty and staff and to mentor students from a wide range of disciplines, cultures and academic backgrounds is essential. We welcome applications from candidates with strong interpersonal, organizational, record-keeping and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic team environment.

Education Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, microbiology or a related field of basic science required.

Physical/Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to push, pull, move or lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Must be able to meet all general health requirements for the position as per University policies

Compensation offered will be commensurate with the educational background and work experience of the individual.
