The developing Physician Assistant (PA) Program at North Carolina A&T State University is seeking a Part-Time Instructor to teach, research, advising, admissions, and performing other responsibilities as delegated by the Program Director.

This is a temporary, part-time position with administrative responsibilities and reports to the Program Director. The part-time faculty member within the Physician Assistant (PA) Program is primarily responsible for curriculum development, instruction, and/or course coordination in the didactic and/or clinical phase of the program. It is expected that the faculty member will be effective in the areas of course design, course delivery, and evaluation. The faculty member is instrumental in ensuring the program is meeting the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) Accreditation Standards.

The Department of Physician Assistant Studies is a quickly growing department, and this position will play a role in preparing for accreditation, admissions, and facilitating growth and development. Essential functions of the Principal Faculty include but are not limited to:

  • Support the development of the didactic and clinical year curriculum

  • Support didactic and clinical year assessment tools and facilitate data-based curricular change

decisions as needed.

  • Support student learning activities in attaining the program's academic competency standards.

  • Coordinate assessment and evaluation processes and ensure feedback and action plans are

communicated in a timely manner.

  • Support orientation of students, and aid in maintaining policies and procedures related to the

preclinical/clinical year.

  • Maintain records regarding student performance, attainment of program competencies, and

evaluations associated with academic performance.

  • Maintain a working knowledge of the ARC-PA standards and ensure their compliance with the

curriculum.

  • Work closely with the program director to ensure the accuracy of program reporting.

  • Perform any other duties and responsibilities as delegated and defined by the PA Program

Director.

Additional Responsibilities expected of Principal Faculty :

Administrative (40%)

  • Participate in activities in preparation for ARC-PA accreditation

  • Participate in the admissions process (file review, interviewing, student selection)

  • Clinical site recruitment preceptor acquisition, management of affiliation agreements

  • Attend monthly Faculty Meetings

  • Attend monthly Curriculum Meetings

  • Attend and participate in the annual program retreat

  • Attend and participate in all events including Orientation, White Coat Ceremony, Graduation, and alumni events.

  • Maintain a working knowledge of the following applications: Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint),

Redcap, Basecamp, Box, Exam Soft, Exxat (clerkship team), and Slack

Teaching (40%)

  • Develop syllabi for assigned program courses 3
  • Develop curriculum, provide instruction, develop assessments, and engage in plans for student

enrichment activities and remediation.

  • Coordination of instruction

  • Model professionalism and ethical behavior

Research (20%)

  • Participate in scholarly activities

  • Engage in national professional PA organizations

Part-Time Instructors are hired on a semester-by-semester basis.

At the graduate level, HCHHS offers four graduate degree programs including the Master's in Physician Assistant Studies (MSPA), Master of Social Work (MSW), Master of Science in Health Psychology and Ph.D. in Social Work. Three additional doctoral programs are being developed; Doctor of Nurse Practice (DNP), PhD in Applied Psychology, and PhD in Sociology. The HCHHS is also home to the Center of Excellence in Integrative Health Disparities and Equity Research (CIHDER), a hub for multidisciplinary research and community engagement efforts to alleviate health inequities. The HCHHS capitalizes on the synergistic relationships between these departments to develop advanced academic programming, enhance the mentoring of trainees, and conduct collaborative multidisciplinary research and scholastic activity.

Minimum Requirements

  • Master's Degree (Doctorate preferred)

  • Ability to communicate effectively (oral and written).

  • High degree of organizational skills and ability to multi-task

  • Strong organizational, planning and time management skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and make distinctions among competitive applicants

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrated presentation skills

  • Evidence of program planning and management skills

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

  • Graduate from an accredited PA program

  • Eligible for PA licensure in North Carolina

  • Current NCCPA certification

  • 5+ years in PA education experience

  • 5+ years as a clinically practicing PA

Required License or Certification Is this position eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement, consistent with university and state policies.
