Job Summary
The Part-Time Gallery Assistant provides support and assistance to the division of Visual Arts with all activities related to gallery programming, special exhibitions, and special events that support the academic curriculum of the division.
Duties & Responsibilities
Coordinates art gallery activities, events, and receptions
Facilitates installation and de-installation of exhibitions
Assists with events management for gallery programming
Ensures gallery storage is organized and cleaning supplies are monitored and ordered
Maintains excellent understanding of exhibitions in order to convey to visitors the concepts behind each show
Maintains gallery contacts, record keeping of the art collection and artwork databases
Assists with collections and deliveries from on and off-site storage units
Assists visual arts staff with occasional general tasks as necessary
Coordinates social media content, news, and creating events on social media platforms in conjunction with the Director of Marketing and Public Relations
Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
Associate of Arts degree from a regionally accredited institution in Art, Art History, Art Administration, or related field and two (2) years of experience in an art related job; or combination of education, training, and related experience
All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
Knowledge and understanding of general gallery operations and contemporary art scene
Possess strong interpersonal skills, excellent organization and communication (both oral and written) skills
Energetic, committed, flexible team-player with a self-starting approach and a strong sense of initiative
Knowledge of MS office, Adobe CC and Social Media websites
Ability to work well in a multi-ethnic and multicultural environment
Ability to work weekends and evenings during programmed events
Professional, courteous demeanor and appearance; ability to work professionally with students, faculty, staff and administration
Preferences
Bachelor of Arts degree in related art field and practical experience in the gallery/museum field preferred.
Additional Requirements
The final candidate is to successfully complete a background screening and reference check process.
