Overview
Blackhawk Technical College is seeking candidates to instruct fitness classes within our Fire Technician program. The fitness instructor is responsible for establishing and maintaining a fitness program to prepare students to serve in the role of a Firefighter/EMT crew member.
The four major goals are to improve strength, work output, endurance, and teaching lifelong fitness and movement skills. The instructor develops training plans, supervises training sessions, evaluates performance/movement, and maintains performance records.
Responsibilities
Facilitation of Learning. Plan, prepare and deliver instruction and facilitate the learning of students.
Assess the learning outcomes of students at the unit, course, and program level. Classroom Management. Fulfill assigned schedule, maintain accurate student attendance, and grade records, maintain instructional environment with emphasis on safety, housekeeping, and equipment security, and ensure opportunities for student/participant evaluation.
Interpersonal/Team Skills. Participate in activities of the instructional team, including planning, development, scheduling, and budgeting as a cooperative and professional team player. Student Support and Guidance.
Support students as a mentor and role model in the achievement of their learning and career goals (If applicable) Curriculum Development. Develop, revise, and continually update curriculum and instructional materials which are competency-based, current, consistent with employer expectations, and aligned with the college policy on level of required documentation.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in kinesiology, exercise science, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of exercise and fitness, and CPR/AED certification. Certified Personal Training Certification, such as ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM, ACS, etc.
Desired Qualifications:
Two years previous post-secondary education experience, include classroom and on-line facilitation.
