Job Description70% - Lead instructor * Serve as lead instructor, assistant instructor, or safety officer (if qualified) for KFRTI programs and courses. * Coordinate scheduled courses with the host department to provide a safe learning environment for students. * Coordinate with KFRTI Drivers to deliver equipment, props, and trailers for training. * Lead contract instructors during multi-training program deliveries. * Adhere to the KFRTI Instructional Methodology during course delivery activities. * Complete and return instructional resources and documentation to KFRTI. * Manage safety and mitigage risk during training delivery. * Attend quarterly scheduled meetings. * Represent KFRTI and KU in all functions of this job in a professional, respectful, and customer-friendly manner. * Frequent Travel by car; expected travel time is 75-100%20% - Certification Test Site Management and Transportation of Training Equipment * Manage KFRTI Certification Testing sites, including Evaluators. * Drive Kansas Fire & Rescue Training Institute non-commercial vehicles and deliver non-commercial trailers and equipment. Note: must have a valid CDL to drive or transport commercial equipment.10% - Other Duties as Assigned * Perform other duties as assigned by the Director or their designee.Required Qualifications * High school diploma plus five years progressive experience conducting/ providing fire service training. * Incident Command System Training: ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800* IFSAC and/or Pro Board NFPA 1001 Firefighter I & II certification* IFSAC and/or Pro Board NFPA 1041 Fire Instructor I certification * Three years of fire and emergency services Instructional experience (80 hours per year) in the subject(s) to be taught.* IFSAC and/or Pro Board Certification and/ or other best practices, research-based credential in the subject(s) to be taught, if applicable. * Physical ability to perform the tasks associated with the instruction and evaluation processes.* IFSAC and/or Pro Board NFPA 1041 Fire Instructor II certification required within one year of hire.* IFSAC and/or Pro Board NFPA 1521 Fire Department Safety Officer Certification required within one year of hire. * Successful Completion of Kansas Fire & Rescue Training Institute Training Methodology: Best Practices in Firefighter Instructors orientation course within one year of hire.Preferred Qualifications*
IFSAC and/or Pro Board (or) FDSO Certification or National Fire Academy course completion for NFPA 1521 Fire Department Safety Officer Certification * Three years with KFRTI as a contract Instructor teaching a minimum of 80 hours each year. * Consistent record of positive course and instructor evaluations from students. * Demonstrated willingness to stay apprised of current, relevant research data and evolving best practices for subject areas* IFSAC and/or Pro Board NFPA 1403 Live Fire Instructor certification (or) International Society of Fire Service Instructors Live Fire Training Instructor credential (or) KFRTI KS Live Fire Instructor course. * Associate or bachelor's degree.Position Requirements * Part-time Instructors may accept or decline requests for instruction; however, Part-time Instructors are expected to remain active and instruct a minimum of 80 hours each calendar year. * Part-time Instructors agree to attend an 8-hour training and information sessions at least once per year. Sessions will be offered in-person and online. * Part-time Instructors desiring to "Lead" instruct live fire training courses are required to successfully complete:* NFPA 1403 Live Fire Training Evolutions through International Society of Fire Service Instructors (ISFSI) or through Kansas Fire & Rescue Training Institute. * Contract Instructors understand and accept the following Instructor Code of Professional Conduct: * Create a positive learning environment for all students. * Treat all students with dignity and respect. * Manage safety and mitigate risk within the training environment. * Promote an environment free of inappropriate racial, ethnic, religious, political, or sexual comments or jokes. * Exercise prudence in their use of language. * Maintain student's privacy and confidentiality (FERPA). * Instruct courses using competency-based instructional methods as defined by KFRTI. * Teach courses to meet the course objectives and learning outcomes set forth by KFRTI. * Keep up to date on the topics they are registered to teach. * Report to KFRTI any negative or harmful classroom dynamics that occurred during the delivery of a KFRTI class. * Always support the mission of Kansas Fire & Rescue Training Institute and serve as a positive ambassador of KFRTI and The University of Kansas. * Part-time Instructors agree to return completed course documentation (Course Record, Attendance Roster, Registration forms, etc.) and/or Certification Exam Documentation within two days (48 hours) of the completion of the event.
