The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University is seeking an individual to co-teach PRL 604 Theory and Practice of Public Relations on Mondays and Tuesdays 10:00-12:00 and 1:00-3:00, and Wednesdays 9:00-12:00 in the Summer Session II 2024 semester (3 credits).
Course Description: Students will learn key public relations theories and how they apply to the evolving practice of public relations in the 21st century. Students will also learn the strategic writing process, storytelling, media relations and pitching techniques, demonstrating professional writing skills using AP Style, planning and presentation skills.
Qualifications
Master's degree required, preferably in the communications field. Qualified instructors will have a substantial background in public relations theory and writing and will be expected to grade a significant amount of writing assignments, with timely turnaround. Excellent grammar, spelling, punctuation, and Associated Press (AP) Style skills are required. Familiarity with news writing is also required.

Responsibilities
It is understood that teaching assignments may include the following:
Developing a syllabus.
Ordering in advance books and materials for students in the class to purchase on or before the first day of classes.
Preparing for classes.
Holding office hours each week to meet with students in the class and others.
Grading in a timely manner student assignments and examinations for the course; and turning in mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
Physical Requirements
Ability to instruct the class on the days and times it is designated to meet.
Ability to hold office hours on campus.
Ability to grade all assignments and examinations.
