The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics at Syracuse University is seeking Part-Time Instructor(s) to teach 4-credit section(s) of French 101-202 in the Spring 2024 semester, which begins January 16, 2024 (appointment begins on January 9, 2024). Offer is contingent upon sufficient enrollment. The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined based on their per-credit-rate-history within the hiring department

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:

French 101 - French I

Introductory proficiency-based course which prepares students to understand, speak, read, and write in culturally authentic contexts. Activities are conducted in French.

French 102 - French II

Continuing proficiency-based course which develops communicative abilities in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in culturally authentic contexts. Activities are conducted in French.

French 201 - French III

Continuing proficiency-based course which refines and expands previously acquired linguistic skills in culturally authentic contexts. Activities are conducted in French.

French 202 - French IV

Continuing proficiency-based course which focuses on reading, discussing, and analyzing authentic contexts as a basis for the expression and interpretation of meaning. Activities are conducted in French.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree required; native or near-native fluency required.
  • Experience in university-level teaching preferred

Responsibilities

It is understood that teaching assignment may include:

  • Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
  • Ordering the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date.
  • Preparation of lectures, projects or other student assignments.
  • Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.
  • Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
  • Meeting all designated class periods.
  • Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
  • Grading student assignments and exams in timely manner.
  • Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
  • Building a positive rapport with students and other faculty.
