Position Summary
Guilford College, a small liberal arts college in Greensboro, is seeking an instructor for Introduction to Sociology during the Fall 2024 semester.
The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Guilford College is seeking an instructor for SOAN 100 Introduction to Sociology for the fall of 2024. This course, unique in its focus on the critical examination of contemporary society, will introduce the field of sociology.
It will examine and compare various theoretical perspectives on culture, social structure, and the development of the individual within the social context. With a strong emphasis on social inequality as the product of structural and belief systems, this course will explore race, class, gender, and sexuality as central elements of social organization.
The course will meet in person twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:30-10:15 AM) within our new condensed 14-week term. The first day of class will be August 21st, and the last day (including the exam period) will be December 13th.
The cap is 25 students. The pay will be $4000, assuming there are at least 11 students on the course. The instructor has autonomy over course content so long as the course matches the catalog description and fulfills certain student learning outcomes.
Having a Ph.D. or PH.D. candidacy and some teaching experience are ideal; an M.A. is required.
