The Department of Film and Media Arts within the College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks a Part-Time Instructor to teach FMA 451 Building Your Audience, a three credit hour course, during the Fall semester, 2024. Two sections are posted.

Building Your Audience is a course designed for the Film and Media Arts senior year. It is a part of preparation for student's thesis project and for their career after graduation. Students should be in the mid to late stages of thesis development. The aim of this course is to have students prepare to develop an audience outside of the classroom. Students will encounter each other's works and attend events hosted by each student. Some professional practices will also be taught.

Qualifications

The successful applicant will have an MFA and at least one year of teaching experience.

Job Specific Qualifications

The successful applicant will be an artist with strengths in digital image making, both still- and moving, digital post-production and research interests in digital culture.

Responsibilities

Class meets once a week for 4 hours. Class prep and grading should take no more than 5 hours/week. Job specific responsibilities include grading, and one-on-one meetings.

In addition:

  • Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.

  • Preparation of lectures, projects or other student assignments.

  • Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.

  • Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.

  • Meeting all designated class periods. If you are unable to meet your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain a substitute. You must also notify the department chair of your absence and of your plan to cover the class.

  • Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.

  • Grading student assignments and exams in timely manner.

  • Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.

  • Building a positive rapport with students and other faculty.
