Part-time Faculty: Director of Bands
Job Summary:
The Department of Fine and Performing Arts at Minot State University (MSU) (https://www.minotstateu.edu/music/) invites applicants to fill an open position as the adjunct Director of Bands beginning August, 2024. The successful candidate will be expected to:
Direct the MSU Concert Band
Direct the MSU Marching Band during football season (same ensemble as the concert band)
Contribute to the Northwest Festival of Music (annual honor band and choir festival)
Oversee and maintain the MSU Band instrument inventory
Oversee and maintain the Marching Band uniform inventory
Additional Employment Opportunities Associated with the Department of Fine and Performing Arts:
In addition to serving as the Director of Bands, there may be additional employment opportunities depending on department needs, interest, and the strengths of the candidate hired. Potential opportunities could include:
Teaching Instrumental Methods Course(s) to music education majors (e.g., Brass Methods, Instrumental Methods, etc.).
Directing the MSU Basketball Pep Band
Observing student teachers
Performing with the Minot Symphony Orchestra: https://minotsymphony.com
Performing in the pit for the Western Plains Opera Company: https://wpopera.org
Minimum Required Qualifications:
Masters Degree in Conducting or Music Education
Prior experience working with concert, marching, and pep bands
Preferred Qualifications:
Doctoral Degree in Conducting or Music Education
Middle School and/or High School Instrumental Music Teaching Experience
Previous College Teaching Experience
