The School of Art within the College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks a Part-Time Instructor to teach ARI 281 Sculpture Methods I, Materials, Processes & Forms, a three credit hour course, during the Fall and Spring semesters, 2024-25. There are two open sections.
Introduction to sculpture: develop mold-making, 3D construction with mixed-media, clay work, identify and solve sculpture problems, carving, plaster work skill sets utilizing contemporary practices.

Qualifications
MFA, BFA/BA Sculpture and/or experience teaching at Intro level. Graduate Candidate preferred.
Job Specific Qualifications
Candidates currently working in a robust and demonstrably manner engaging methods and materials germane to traditional sculpture practices.
Responsibilities
Teach studio sessions twice per week for 14 weeks equaling 5 hours per week. Studio sessions must be taught in a logical manner building on experience and development of students. Provide context and background to sculptural problems. Teach a variety of approaches that enable students to meet the learning outcomes and promote further study in sculpture.
Job specific responsibilities Maintain a safe work environment physically and socially. Must have metal and wood shop experience; knowledgeably introduce methods, materials, techniques, etc. to students unfamiliar with said modes.
In addition:
Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
Preparation of lectures, projects or other student assignments.
Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.
Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
Meeting all designated class periods.
If you are unable to meet your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain a substitute.
You must also notify the department chair of your absence and of your plan to cover the class.
Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
Grading student assignments and exams in timely manner.
Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
Building a positive rapport with students and other faculty.
